Using an old SSD from a desk top in a laptop - is it possible?

I have an SSD from my desktop which holds an OS plus programs. My current laptop is crashing regularly due to problems with it's SSD, I think.

Is it possible to install the desktop SSD in the laptop and run without any problems and with access to the same OS and programs?
I would also like to repartition the drive so I have an area to save documents aswell.

you can give it a try.

may run in to issues as its different hardware, make sure the sata ports are set the same as the desktop PC (ACHI, RAID or IDE)

failing that try running sfc /scannow on the laptop and it may fix the issues, also check the health of the SSD using HD tune or something like that as it will show any issues with the SSD as well.

Should be possible, it's a bit of a "dirty" way of doing it as the OS will have drivers set up for the desktop it was removed from but it should work.

It will work but you may run into compatibility issues. My ssd and its windows install were setup on an i7 4790k setup. But I've switched to a 5820k nd need to reinstall windows due to a few issues.

I wouldn't try it. So many drivers install little things all over the place. It may appear to work fine but then run into issues down the line.

Always results in an unstable system in my experience. One place I worked the IT dept used to do this. They'd always end up re-installing windows eventually.
