Using external HDD as boot drive

Hey guys,

Last night the hard drive on my coreduo macbook went. When I tried to boot it I just got a flashing folder with a '?' and it wouldn't boot. I have just reinstalled osx on to a external USB drive which seems to be working. Is it ok to use this as my only drive for my macbook? If I can then I won't need to buy a replacement internal hard drive.

Any advice appreciated.

Michael

If it works I don't see any reason why not, but the HDD in the older style macbooks is a piece of cake to replace and you can get yourself a 250gb drive for well under £40, 500gb for about £50ish.

I'd definitely look into it - it's very very easy to fit the new drive, the old one's just on a little sled that you pull out.
