I just received my Force 3 Corsair drive which as you all are aware is sata 3. My motherboard only has marvel 9128 for sata 3 which according to reviews is pants for IOPS.

I've also just learned that the marvel controller doesn't support trim, and further more can't achieve anywhere near its sata 3 claims.

My questions are :

1.) Is it worth me keeping the drive and just using it on a sata 2 port (ICH) on a p55a board, or should I send it back and swap it for a vertex 2e or similar? I'm just wondering what the iops will be on sata 2, I realise its maximum throughput will be limited!

2.) Trim is apparently supported on the sata 2 ports so this drive should be slightly better off on these ports than the marvell controller?

3.) Any suggestions on what you would do. A sandybridge upgrade financially isn't possible at the moment.

Thanks guys :)

well if your going over to sandybridge soon.then i would keep it on the sata 2 port and put up with it for now.then when you get sandybridge you'll have all that lovely speed
