Hi
A friend of mine seems to think that if your play dvds or blurays on your ps3 it will eventually break.....Just wondering if any of ye agree with this?

Well i suppose that it will in the sense that using any electronic device will eventually wear it down. But it won't do any more damage (in fact probably less) than playing games.

Any device degrades with use, Even a stand alone bluray player would. But dont think of them as having a time limit or date in which it will suddenly die from over use.

Will be fine, we got a ps3 because of the blue ray (release model, was cheapest blueray player in the market at the time).

Was also used for games and it died last week (yellow light of death), so not had a bad run if you consider we got it not long after release.

Will try and fix it myself when i get the chance, maybe squeeze some more life out of it.

If you've already got a PS3 then don't bother buying a Blu-Ray player unless it's for a different room. I was the other way around and had a Blu-Ray player before I had a PS3, I tend to use the dedicated player to watch movies on but only to prolong the life of the drive in my PS3. If I didn't have a dedicated BD player I wouldn't bother rushing out to buy one though, your friend is a drama queen.

Ya thats what I was thinking.so ye think I should just use the ps3 as a bluray player and not bother buying one?

Definately get another one, maybe also get a 360 or another PS3 so you can avoid playing games on yours as well. Better safe than sorry! ;)

Ask your friend whether he has taken his out of the box yet? That kills them big time. Honestly, every single broken PS3 out there was removed from its box, i sense a definite correlation.

^^^

I agree with this, if you have a PS3 why would you buy a blu-ray player
I use my PS3 for Freeview, DVD, Blu-Ray, MP3, Movie player and have had no problems with it at all and it's a old fat one (bought it in December 2008).

Strange logic, Electrical item will break if used for its intended purpose.

I wonder if that's part of the T&C's, I'd check the fineprint just to be sure :p.

What?! Are you saying that if you use electronic equipment, it will eventually break? You mean it doesn't last forever?!!! OMG.
