Hi folks,

Just got an F1 Samsung 1tb and am currently running it naked sitting on top of my PC case using the Gigabyte mobo's external SATA connectors.

Seems to work fine and dandy at the moment but I was wondering if running it sitting on the top of the PC case was good idea from an EMF standpoint as its right above the PSU.

The PC's in the corner so it isnt going to be knocked, or fall off so thats not a worry but having it perched right about the power supply is what I am currently wondering about.

Thanks folks,

Rik

I think hard drives like to have some metal to metal contact on them to help dissipate the heat. Might want to watch your temps if it's just sitting there.

I used a Seagate 7200.10 outside of the case for a few hours and got almost too hot to touch.. mind you, I am led to believe that they're pretty hot running drives anyway.

Im going to pop it inside the case tomorrow as Ive found a problem anyway (made a seperate post now).

Cheers for the reply mate.

just buy an icybox 390, you'll get the same speed, and it's easily disconnectable, plus it has a usb2 port aswell as the esata :)
