Uskippable FMV sequences in games...

Arrrggggh how the hell can I skip cut scenes in Wolfenstein 2 it's been 10 minutes and I've still yet to play the game.

I have no issue with un-skippable content in games, so long as it's telling the story.
It's a pain on startup though.

Far Cry 5 was a pain for stuff like this, forcing you into specific scenes every often as you progressed

I thought it was brilliant, story progression triggers at certain parts of the game. Thought it was excellent.

The Half Life intro was truly revolutionary for its day though. It was all in game graphics, and set the game up for the actual story - both things that had never been done before (or at least not in a noticeable way). You’ve no idea just how jaw dropping the intro to Half Life was at the time!

I *do* remember it at the time and whilst it was cool on a technical level, it was an incredibly boring start to the game and certainly didn't get me itching to play.

I don’t mind cut-scenes crucial to the game’s plot if I can skip them on the second time I reach that point.

Repetitive NPC dialogue that can’t be skipped is just poor game design.

I also don't like it when an unskippable cut scene decides that even though you've been a badass for the last few levels and are killing everyone easily the story says you need to get knocked out or captured somehow. Because plot.

It's been so long since I bought an EA game I'm not sure if this is still a thing or not but EA went through a phase where you couldn't skip the 'EA' logo animation when loading a game.

I really hate these. What I hate even more is when you get an unskippable cutscene right before a boss fight, that when you die, you have to watch over and over again.

Hate it, i always end up using alt+f4 which is sometimes disabled or alt+ctrl&del to end the game. At that point ill request refund, return it or just never play it again.
The HL black mesa intro was incredible though

Even worse when the boss fight is QTE heavy with sequences that aren't intuitive and have less than perfect key recognition and timing limitations. Then again these days I simply don't buy games that have QTEs as a mechanic.

Ah yeah that is super annoying as well - at least Deus Ex handled that a bit better - it was frustrating in Far Cry 2 for instance though I found a glitch where you could actually survive the scripted being overwhelmed and captured bit but then the story wouldn't progress LOL.

One of the surprising benefits of wireless headphones on Mass Effect. Keeping up with the dialogue as you have a wee.

I have no issue with QTEs done right, and occasionally. They’re a chance to tell a story, and retain player participation. They also allow a player to ‘perform’ moves / actions that aren’t possible within the confines of the game mechanic.

Unskippable movies though? Bloody awful. If it’s for loading, add a progress bar and the ability to skip once loaded.

If the movies were long and regular, I’d be tempted to ditch the game if I wasn’t invested in the story enough.
