Utube

I know but you try and bring up to what is acceptable only for one of them to come up to me and tell me what thomas has just said and for me to explain that what he said is wrong.

Buy them Thomas the Tank DVDs/books and put parental filters on to disallow youtube?
Better yet, get them to go outside and play :D

I regularly take my 7 year old goddaughter to football, where some of the language she hears is rather colourful. The first time we went I had a chat with her in the car, and told her she might hear some naughty words, I said that they were just special words for football and if I ever heard about her using them when she was at home, then I wouldnt be taking her to football again.

So far there have been no problems. I think if you prepare them for it, and set a good example (I try very hard not to swear if she is with me) then there arent any problems.

Well then dont go on youtube then

if mcdonalds allowed people to swear at and abuse their customers, would you stop going to mcdonalds .

or would you want mcdonalds to sort these people out and not let them in ?

why should people have to stop using youtube, when all youtube have to do is censor the comments ?

Because the world isn't perfect and its it that much of problem then you need to take personal responsibility to handle the problem rather than relying on others. Easiest way to do that is just avoid it.

if i were in the street, then id say you were totally correct and i would deal with things myself..

if i go somewhere which is owned by a company, i expect that company to have a certain amount of control over what happens

I find it similar to what goes on here; there are some guys who think that the sort of language and lavatorial humour that they use down the pub with their mates is acceptable on these forums which are designated by the owner as "family friendly": The mods do a reasonable job of controlling the excesses but can't be everywhere so we should be prepared to use the report posts that may not offend us but are not acceptable within the rules.

Edit: Did I just get edited by a mod? I'm sure there was more to this post.....

What a stupid thing to say. Youtube has god knows how many comments an such posted every second, McDs has individual restaurants [can you really call them that?] that have staff in each of them to stop things like this.

You can't censor the world.

It may be a cliché but I blame the parent in this case.

At the age of 8 kids should not have uncensored access to the internet and definitely not to user input sites like Youtube. The op uses the net himself so its not like he isn't net savvy and frankly he should have known what youtube is like and if he didn't he should have learned what to expect before exposing it to a 5 year old.

The way the press attacks YouTube about the violence at schools etc then I believe one day they will have some form of censorship in place, what I don't know.

Anyway, then the only advice is to avoid YouTube for young kids and let them just visit the shows "official" site and the likes of Cbeebies.
