V for Vendetta - Out 17th March. Thats tomorrow!

Not seen the Total Film and Empire reviews, so couldn't comment. But the ones i've seen including The Sun today (2/5) and on teletext/ceefax aren't exactly glowing. But i'll see be going to watch it and make my own mind up.

Just got back from seeing it....

I thought it was utterly superb! Not just the usual boring action movie....it was very different and fresh....and relevant. Portman does a great job, once you get used to her slightly clumsy English accent (I've heard worse...) although I don't understand why they couldn't just cast.....an English girl....we have some good actresses  Anyway, I loved it. I think it's gonna be a "Marmite" movie tho - I'm sure there will be a fair amount of people ripping it to pieces in here soon ;)

Although to be honest, it DOES look like a steaming pile of crap from what i have seen and read about it.

Here's an idea........go and watch it then pass judgement?

I agree Curio it was unique and different. Something refreshing and worth the money to go and see. Plus your right people will be ripping it to shreds and with the current state of hollywood I'm not sure if its gonna make too much money at the box office.

V isnt the typical hero which made it interesting.

Here's an idea, stop trying to be clever, it doesnt suit you. ;)
I have not passed any judgement other than over the material i have seen.
And the material i have seen, looks like a steaming pile of crap, although Total Film and Empire have seen it, and do like it.

A fairly balanced opinion even if i do say so myself.

Well I thought it was a fantastic film, honestly ignore the reviews and go and see it. It was in parts maybe a little disjointed but it doesn't detract the fact that it was a very clever, refreshing film :)

When I first saw the comic I thought that V would make a brilliant film, so I'm going to see it. :) Can someone tell me if V's song is used in the film?
The one that goes:

"In no longer pretty cities
There are fingers in the kitties
There are warrants, forms and chitties
And a jackboot on the stair."

I really enjoyed it, thought it was very good indeed. Quite scary too. Just goes to show how much balls the critics talk :)

I'm going to go see it this afternoon, I'm a little worried that it won't be as good as the book, :( there is a lot of heavy stuff in the book and hollywood today has an annoying habit of dumbing stuff down to make it more apealing to the masses, well I'll have to see I guess.

Ps. Bald women are not attractive...

But your opinion counts for nothing until you've actually seen it yourself :D

Not too sure how calling a trailer a steaming pile of crap when the discussion is over the film as a whole is a fairly balanced opinion to be honest?

I saw it yesterday, can i just say

what a complete and utter pile of AWESOMENESS!

havent seen such a good movie since king kong and tbh i thought it was better than that but kong was good in a different way

anyone spot the completely obvious matrix reference at the end! my mate completely missed it and he's normally pretty sharp with these things

I saw it this afternoon, I went into it not knowing anything about it except for having seen a brief trailer which didn't do it justice.

I really enjoyed it and would suggest it's well worth watching.

Well i'm not sure if i saw the same film as everyone else :/

I thought it was ok. Cringed my way through the first hour or so and did my best to concentrate on Ms Portman, but it did eventually pick up. Nice messages in it, a couple of good bits... but on the whole a very average film imo.

Saw it at Imax on friday, loved every second of it. The story, the direction, the dialogue the acting the music the action everything was just exceptional.

I think the critics are just giving it a bad time because they just can't understand wachowskis making a good film. The amount of criticism its received is totally undeserved (much like matrix reloaded) and it's probably the best film i've film i seen since, kill bill 2?

Loved it and will be seeing it again asap.

Read my first post.

I said i dont see how 3 and 4 star reviews from trusted magazines are "negative".

I then add, that however, form what ive seen, clips, trailers, articles on the film, and reading the reviews of the film, that it looks lilke a load of rubbish.

I dont have to go to every film to express my opinion on them, or to know what ill like.
I KNOW i wont like Brokeback mountain, i havent seen it, i know i will find it load of artsy crap.
I also know i wont enjoy the Hills have eyes, and will think its a load of schlock horror crap.
I have not seen that either.
But i read a lot about films, see a lot clips and trailers, and can compare them on my atpbx likes-o-meter.
I only saw 5 minutes or so of Sin City, i thought that was crap as well, can i not say its rubbish because i only saw a small portion of it?
How much of a movie do you have to see to be able to express an opinion on it?
All of it?
Half of it?

That's your call but disagree totally, and you're probably missing some damn good films by 'judging a book by its cover', as it were. I never thought I'd like Chicago but went to see it as the film I wanted to see was sold out, and actually really enjoyed it. Never been a particular fan of older, b&w films, even the classics, but when I sat through Some Like It Hot one christmas have to say its a damn funny film. Not saying necessarily that you should like Chicago or Some Like it Hot as it ain't everyone's cup of tea, but films can certainly surprise you.

Also the lower expectations you have of a film, the more I find you like it if it is any good.

Just got back from watching this. Where do i start.
Lets see, we take a damn brilliant comic strip by one of the uk's top comic writers, then dumb it down and remove a lot of what makes the comic so good, since, probably the majority of the audience wont get it.
Yes, bits of it follow the book, but only just and the ending was soooo wrong.
We dont see Finch's side of the story, which helps so much in the comic.
Granted Ms Portman is nice to look at, but she wasnt right for the role, her accent occasionally going "aussie".
And at one point i was almost expecting V to say "Mr Anderson, we've been expecting you!"
Sorry, but apart from the visuals (inlcuding Ms Portman with her hair in pigtails :D ), the audio and Stephen Frys (who was very good) bit, the film didnt nothing for me.
Maybe it's due to having the read the graphic novel so many times i was expecting some thing like the book, but the was let down. Now i can see why Mr Ross slated it and i have to agree.
I can also see why Alan Moore wanted all reference of his name removing from the film.
If you've seen it and enjoyed it, i now suggest you read the graphic novel and see what it should have been about.
