Hi all, I need some advice on behalf my dad who is (was) a v21 ADSL customer.
basically the wholesale ADSL supplier who actually provide the connections to V21 (now biskit) are in dispute with V21 over some uonpaid / disputed bills.

My dad needs his mac number to sign up with another unrelated supplier who don't use netServices as the conduit.

NetServices refuse to give dad has mac number saying that it's a v21 issue.

NetServices aparently refuse to give the mac numbers to V21 because they are in duspute over cash.

V21 can't or won't give dad his mac number (or even answer the phone).

BT can't do anything because the mac number is owned by netServices and they can't force a disconnection.

soooooooo what's he got to do to get broadband back? He needs it to connect to his office network as he's a telecommuter and needs to avoid a 350 mile drive to work.

any ideas?

Read the article on http://www.adslguide.org.uk/

Basically he has 2 choices. He can either Sign up now with EzzDSL or whatever there name is and pay 20-30 a month for the next 12 months or wait until 24th november when the cease requests go in. They will take 7 days to go through and then he can apply to go with whoever he wants after that.

If he needs his ADSL as soon as possible then the only route is EzzDSL.

what's really annoying is that BT said on the phone that it was technically possible for them to connect him to another ISP and/or give him his MAC code but were unable to do so because of the rules that were put there to protect consumers fomr the ISPs behaving badly. Instead the wholesale ADSL resellers have the ISPs over a barrel with thier customers mac numbers.

Big buisness wins and the customer gets shafted AGAIN!

no doubt the directors of all the companies concerned have there connections sorted out.

Is there no way that he can get his mac code from a 3rd party like BT or OFCOM in this case?

No as netservices are the wholesale supplier of V21 so its got nothing to do with BT wholesale. Netservices have already said there will be no MACS issued so he is left with the 2 choices above.

it just seems like a ridiculous situation, oh well ofcom complaint it is which will do nothing and he has to wait I guess.

I just wish he'd taken my advice of avoiding V21 like the plague but they were the cheapest so that's where his money has been going.

Thanks for the advice

Paul
