Vacuum cleaner recommendations?

Have to agree to disagree on that. No way a vacuum without a brush cleans carpet even half as good. I'm going of the fact when I went from an old cylinder to an upright it filled the bin again in each room. So what at first looked clean was far from it.

No brush is awful on carpet by comparison, we ran a non brushed machine prior to the current Dysons and the difference was staggering at the time. A non brushed simply doesnt get the hair etc out of the carpet, or anything remotely tangled to it.

Just picked up a Dyson V8 Absolute from their eBay outlet. Brand spanking new condition.

We've had a DC10 for nearly 14 years. It's had a new motor and a new hose but it's still going strong. The only reason we've changed to a handheld is that we've got mostly hard floors downstairs and the upright wasn't suitable.

Well I have a dyson pull along, it's been great, we only have carpet on the stairs and landing, but it's me doing the 'agitation' to get the filth off these areas. Be nicer to have a rolling brush thingy to do this, my wife cleans it, but it isn't the same clean.. it's almost a full workout for me when I do the stairs, sweat and everything! All other areas are laminate/tile so it does a great job.. Roll on automation.. I'm already planning the stairs will not be carpet. The robots can do the rest!

Yes, saw first add for Blizzard during F1 add break, so they are targetting male voice in the purchase ? (F1’s audience shifts to 40% female 2015)
have not noticed Miele or Dyson marketting at F1 itself ?

would be interesting to know if there are any Dyson patent infringment accusations pending.
(but they usually wait to see how much of market share gets taken)

Not owned a dyson (aeg/bosch), but I guess they saught to make the design distinctive, to the point where I think it is form over function,
and that steers me away from a purchase ... but I guess their market segment thinks differently .. the Chinese ?
what is the deal with Dyson hand held - I need a hoze to get into corners(under car seats), not a proboscis.

Youre comparing apples with pears when you bring in cordless. The thing I find with Dyson is that after a while they lose performance, where the Miele keeps going.

You need to clean the filter, the reason it looses suction isn't because the motor losses power, it's because the filter is blocked. Clean it and it'll be like new.

The cordless will never be as powerful as a mains, because of this I actually got a Dyson BigBall Animal today. Cordless for quick clean and the big ball for weekly clean. As for price, it's cheaper than a Miele C3 I was looking at by like £80 and it comes with soooo many attachments it is ridiculous.

I've just blind bought a Sebo Automatic X4 Pet Eco Boost before the 900 watt EU ban kicks in, mumsnet says they're good, who am I to disagree :p
