Hi Guys,

Just taking from the Audi thread as think it may get a little lost in there, can you give me a rough idea on how much car is worth please:

Audi A4 S-Line
56 reg
Auto
87k miles
2.0 tdi 140

Pretty standard spec no leather or nav.

Basically since getting the Qashqai as the family car mine only did around 10k miles last year May - May.

If possible would like to be able to swap into something a little more exciting.

The problem is we will be spending a few k in the coming months on the house and with the little one having arrived 10 weeks ago priorities have changed a little so car priorities are well low on the list.

Just wondering if there are any cars I could likely do a straight swap with mine? What would you consider?

30mpg minimum
Ideally no older than current car
Petrol

Thanks

Octavia vRS? Nice big boot and goes when you put your foot down? Not sure if you'd be able to do a straight swap though :( Or if you don't need practical go with the forums recommendation of an MX-5 :p

Thanks and will have a look, all depends on the value of my car.

Regarding boot space, not so much a problem due to having the other family car. Just can't be a 2 seater though!!

Had in my head around £5,500 - £6k at a push.

What are peoples thoughts on a golf GTI around these prices?!

Thats a pretty low budget for a mk5 GTI. You will be looking at 2005 examples for that price or very high mileage newer ones. You might get more for your money from a Seat Leon Cupra.

Theres also the classic OCUK motors suggestion of an E46 330Ci of which you could get a nice example within your budget although it would be a little older than your A4.

Audi A3 3.2DSGs will come in under your budget too, they might not do 30mpg combined but they will do over 30mpg on a run and the noise would make up for the MPG.

Hmm thanks for the suggestions, may look at the 3.2 DSG A4, much to look out for in them?

I notice on the GTI's the mileage is around 110k + in the price range, assuming fully serviced correctly can much go wrong?

Not really, the tfsi engines are pretty sturdy. Make sure the cambelt+water pump has been done a 2nd time at that sort of mileage though. A revo or shark remap will net you about 30-40bhp and you won't have to change anything else to support it. Since it's the same as the octavia, the rear anti roll bar is probably a worthwhile handling upgrade on it too.

Oh and don't be put off because these engines sound rather diesely, they pretty much all do :D :
