Valve 'Probably' Done With Single-Player Games

guys its definitely obvious what the multilayer will be like. Host will take control of Gordon Freeman, 2nd player will take control of Alyx and the other players will simply be in a squad like you see in episode 2. Valve will probably release a new half-life death match based on the new source engine.

The first 2, you buy 1 game and it has a single player and a multi player, HL2DM is a stand alone multiplayer game like team fortress 2 or cs:s

Sorry you're mistaken. I got HL2 deathmatch from my one purchase of HL2 - just like any other game.

If anyone here honestly believes that a game as big as Half Life 3 is going to be released without any form of single player then i'm sorry but you're completely soft in the head, it just isn't going to happen.

i wont miss single player, never play it, just jump straight to mp.

I like games with plenty of copetitiveness which sp doesnt give you.

This has always annoyed me. Either make a SP game or a MP one. I've played all the CoD's (Bar MW2) and have never touched the MP. If I wanted MP I'd play BF2 instead (Which I do). Divided direction will not result in the best possible product.

Tell me the difference between CoD team/deathmatch, UT 2004/3 Team/Deathmatch and HL2 Team/Deathmatch.

What makes the first two any more official than the last one?

Sorry? I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make. Unreal Tournament being considered a singleplayer only game? Lolwut? CoD being considered a singleplayer only game? Lolwut? What do those games have in common with Half Life/Deathmatch? If you look at Half Life 1 or 2 as anything but a singleplayer game you need your head examined, regardless of the existence of Deathmatch. Its not a seperate installer or an optional part, its an entirely seperate game.

Or do i have to link you to the Half Life 1+2 Deathmatch pages to show it having its own price tag completely seperate to the SP games?

Edit: My bad

Well you got them bundled together, just like the orange box bundles games together, they are seperate games often sold together, but they are seperate games, there are plenty of cases of games releasing a stand alone multiplayer after a single play outing.

HL:Ep3 will have a SP, sure. They're supposed to have been working on that for a while, so I wouldn't count it as a "future title".

The question is, what does this announcement mean for future Valve games? Could there be more in the style of L4D or TF2 and perhaps an MMO? With fewer and fewer SP hours in all their titles?

You've read the article then?

Half-Life is dead really, most people that played it are married with kids :p

All the Xbox kiddies aren't going to care about HL3, it's all about killstreaks and killcams now.

Thats why I only play arma 2 now :)

Yeah.

It's a comment from a Journo who claims to have overheard a conversation deciding the future of all future Valve games and that this is no more single player.

Forgive me if I file such nonsense under B for 'bull****'.

And for everyone calling it an 'announcement' - it's nothing of the sort, it's water cooler gossip at best.

I really hope this isn't the end of the Half Life franchise.

Epic lulz at the amount of bitching and toolish behaviour.

There is yet to be a truely EPIC co-op campaign in any game, they all seem to lack polish, completion the SP games go. Valve could do this.

What I mean is two players in the same universe, in different locations, doing things which affect the narrative dynamically for the other player. For example, HL2, At the same point when Freeman steps off the train at the start, you could be someone else on a different part of the map clearing a space in the tower block for him ;)

Valve have the brains and drive to make a truely awesome co-op game.

Saying they will never again make a game with a sp campaign is stupid.

tbh that's just 2 people playing separate sp games and is normally done purely over the radio with a fake ai character doing it.

the fun of coop is being next to each other fighting the same battle.

Sorry for the considerable bump, but see this. Seems people were misinterpreting what he said, or presuming the worst.
