Valve 'Probably' Done With Single-Player Games

I believe all it means is that they want to fill the void of people thinking "Damn, I wish I could be playing this right now with a friend".

So many games have come out and I wished they'd have incorperated cooperative modes, not the half ***** "coop modes" you see like bulletstorm, the actually full singleplayer game story with a friend. Sure some don't support the idea but others do, plenty do.

You're starting to see a lot of games coming out like this now, it's only a good thing; sure you can still play it alone but the option to play with friends just makes the experience ten fold better. I laughed more and had more fun in Portal 2 coop than I did SP, with my best friend :D

C'mon.... still the mass market of people still play single player..... surely all of gaming hasn't gone online?

Whats the sort of total sales volume compared to online volume of gamers?

I can't be bothered with online play at all.....

I honestly feel like I am wasting my life whenever I play single player games. That might seem dramatic but it is genuinely how I feel.

Playing multiplayer games locally or online with my friends is the only gaming I do these days.

Does this mean HL3 will be co-op with Alyx? That could work. Picture her gestures, nice taunts.

If it is I probably wont be buying it. Or I'll wait until its very cheap before I buy.

HL is an awesome single player game, making it coop wouldn't work at all IMO. Especially for people like me who doesn't have any friends that play PC games (they all play xbox360 :(), so I'd end up playing with some random noob, which would sap all the fun out if it for me.

Same goes for if they add a separate multiplayer component to the game as the sp will no doubt suffer in terms of quality or quantity, or both.

Resident Evil 5 was a good example of this.

Add a co-op mode if they must, but don't make it so you have to play through the story in co-op. I never play MP games now, I get too angry haha.

I'm much more happy enjoying the storyline of Mass Effect, or STALKER etc

The problem with multiplayer is the other players, team killing, disconnects, Billy teas ready and needing to use the toilet. Nevermind lag/server load or your ISP. I never touch mp till am done with single player, its a game spoiler.

Agree with the above 3 posts....

I simply can't believe the days are gone where you are a lone character 'battling against all odds' etc etc.... aka Freeman, Bioshock, Fallout, etc....

Now you have to do with with X-hundered people playing.... some of which simply spend an unhealthy time getting that good.... or being forced to co-incide with being online at the same time as other people to co-op...

Am sure there are plenty of us who work long, unforecastable hours, have other hobbies etc... and just want to play some really good games as and when.... :)

valve will never give up the single player part of games...

i read that as there just gunna start including single+multiplayer in games instead of one or the other ala l4d... or include some form of co-op mode in all games

valve know how they got were they did n wouldnt stop doing it completely..

one of the few devs who knows you gota make decent games to keep the fans that keep the money rolling in

I remember multiplayer being in the main game menu in Half Life. the original non steam version anyway..I think. It's been a few years :)

im pretty sure i played the original in multiplayer as well without having the deathmatch addon

i didn't really like it, but i remember it being an option when it first came out.

wasn't the deathmatch just a mod of the original multiplayer to make it better

EDIT: just checked, and there isn't actually a Half Life: Deathmatch
as i thought, it was included in the original game, so those saying that its seperate are completly wrong
There is "Deathmatch Classic" but thats a mod like CS and TFC, u dont need it to play multiplayer half life
