*** Valve Steam Machine ***

Looking at the price and people saying they just want to PC game in their living room, as long as you've got reasonable Internet, wouldn't a Geforce Now Ultimate subscription be better value for money at £200 a year and allow you to play at a 5080 level?
Thats what I use and play through the Steam Deck on the TV, can also play on an android handheld etc. Not all games are on Geforce now however, but if you have a good connection its great value compared to cost of the hardware

Yeah I've recently bought a gaming PC but thinking to continue my Ultimate sub as it's convenient for the TV and also good at not making my PC a jet engine on newer games

Hello ,
Between July 29 2026 and August 1, 2026, a cyberattack hit CEVA Logistics, the company that ships Steam hardware to customers in Europe. CEVA is still investigating this attack, but as Valve learned on August 7, certain information about Steam customers, including you, was likely compromised.

CEVA receives specific delivery-related information from Steam to be able to ship physical hardware to customers in Europe, and told us these are the details the attacker likely took. Because CEVA retains this information for up to 90 days after that order, we are sending this message to all customers we can assume were impacted.

For you, that means the following information related to your hardware purchase may have been compromised:
 • your name
 • your street address, postal code and city
 • your country
 • your phone number
 • your email address — the same one your Steam account uses
 • the type and price of the ordered product
Additional information related to your Steam account or other purchases was not impacted. CEVA does not have access to your payment information, passwords, Steam Guard codes or other information.

What this means for you

Expect fake messages - email, SMS or phone - that mention your hardware order and appear to come from Steam, Valve or a delivery company. They may quote your address back to you to prove they're genuine. They may ask you to confirm a delivery, pay a small customs or redelivery fee, or sign in somewhere to “verify” your order. Treat all of them as fake.

You do not need to change your Steam password, and you don't need to do anything to your account settings.

Three things that are always true
 • Steam Support only handles account issues at https://help.steampowered.com/. Never by email, Steam Chat or Discord. Anyone who contacts you elsewhere claiming to be Steam Support is not.
 • Every real Steam login page is on store.steampowered.com, www.steampowered.com, steamcommunity.com or help.steampowered.com. Type the address yourself rather than following a link someone sent you.
 • Steam Support will never ask you for your password or a Steam Guard code. Neither will a courier.

What we're doing

We're pressing CEVA for the full scope of what was taken and how, and we are in the process of notifying the data protection authorities in the countries affected, including yours. CEVA has isolated the affected systems, taken all offline and brought in outside investigators.

If you have questions about this incident, the quickest way to reach us is our support site at help.steampowered.com. You can also write to the contact point we have designated for further information about this incident: Artana Digital GmbH, Alstertwiete 3, 20099 Hamburg, Germany.

They took all our datas.

At least now if you were putting off your verification, you’ve got another reason to do so because your details have been leaked again. Just incase there was still any doubt that names and addresses aren’t already out there.

Two in a week - Framework (third-party incompetence) and now Steam (third-party). Both affect me - email, phone number etc etc.

I wonder if Metabase is involved in both as they had a 10/10 CVE recently - due to incompetence really.

Wouldn't a dockable handheld be better?
I meant to reply to this but didn't, sorry.

Take Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - a game which can be a challenge to even high-end PCs.

Its got its own special Steam Deck settings which can be summarised as "lower than are possible to set on PC". They look OK(ish) on the Steam Deck at 720p and for the main part it delivers 30fps+. When docked it looks appalling on any display which is higher-res as there's not enough resources to upscale. Doesn't matter how far away you sit it isn't getting better. I've been short-sighted since I was a child and it still looks crap :D

The Steam Machine will run it at 1080p internal resolution with medium settings and upscale* to 4k at 60fps. Looks fine when you're sitting 2 metres away.

I have no doubt it could look better with a PC. I have no desire to maintain a PC (whether Windows or Linux) in the living room and SteamOS has been as hassle-free on the deck.

*don't use FSR on this game (looks bad), XeSS is a bit better on GPU load than native TSAA but produces a different output. Lots of options to tweak if you want.

It's your last point there for me I think, low hassle and low effort living room PC. I had most of the money put to one side in a 'steam hardware' savings pot from last year so I did go for it in the end, well aware that it isn't a good deal but it will be a neat, compact living room that will play things good enough (especially with my backlog of > 600 games in steam, most of which would probably run on a toaster with a bit of coaxing).

I've done all the mini-PC, Steam streamer, HTPC etc etc stuff for the living room over the decades & Windows has just got more and more of a ******** over the years. I'm not dealing with it in the living room - end of story :D

SteamOS works well for the default overlay & you can go to desktop mode to install things like vlc for codec support to stream from a NAS etc. Haven't done it on the SM yet but the SD worked fine when I had it.

Yeah, I've played around with a few options too including the old steam link back in the day. They worked but never as well as I wanted, had the best results when I carted down a PC and hdmi'd that up to the TV for party games or something. I've got limited space on my tv unit so I'm hoping it'll fit in nicely. Don't think we'll be seeing any good deals on anything similar for the next couple of years anyway thanks to the ram crisis etc. Just feels bad having to pay that much for something with that performance, I'm sure it'll fit in nicely though (assuming they don't hold fire on EU based deliveries because of all the fun and games with data breaches..)

Sony/MS bumped their console prices and their OS's are a closed economy for games, so we are where we are.

Valve are by no means angels (20% cut) but they've done some heavy lifting with proton in terms of making games cross-platform & its trivial to add "non-steam" games to the overlay.

I guess it depends where you're starting from. No existing console investment, existing PC library going back a while then this is like a no-brainer for the living room. FSR4 support makes it even more so.

As someone that has been gaming on linux for a very long time (think tux racer etc.), proton has been a real game changer. Steam deck was great too. Not a fanboy but certainly appreciate these things!

I'm nerdy enough to have a PS5 and a switch 2 under the TV but I'm all about options and hoping the steam machine will just add to those options. Looking forward to having a new play (the 'new and shiny' gadget experience can't be overstated either

Some of the steam machine discourse is a bit pointless
It's not like you can actually just outright buy it and get one delivered. Hell I'm still waiting on a controller I joined the waitlist on in May

I can fully understand it's appeal, but I'd rather have a mini PC with a 9060XT.

The other issue is with the Steam machine is that in 2029, how will it stack up? It's not like you can upgrade it.

They should have had the steam machine out a few years ago to be honest.

We just need Nvidia to get their act together in regards to drivers and the like and then I'll just stick SteamOS on my gaming laptop (Which is basically on par with a steam machine anyway with a 4060 in it)

Just run it on windoes with steam big picture mode, 90% of the product with 0% of the hassle.

Just got my Email from Valve giving me the 3 days to purchase one which I'd completely forgot about, TBH

Not interested anymore, TBH. Terrible price to performance ratio.

Still on the list for a controller which i will get but thats still a 2027 date for availability last time I checked which seems pretty absurd.

Just means you FOMO dominates your life lol (No shade, me too, I just resisted at the time)
Not really, it’s the middle of summer and I’ve just been outside ‘touching grass’.

Looks like it was the right call given I can’t actually buy one for when the heat finally goes and the miserable gaming weather returns.

still happy with mine even though it was a bit of an impulse buy after a decade away from pc gaming and being so impressed with the steam deck I won early this year.

I was looking at itx builds for ages and in all honesty I’m glad I’ve not had to read another “will this case fit x.” “What will my performance/temps be like with x” “am4 or am5” “are any flex psus quiet but not cost a kidney”.

I realise it’s not for everyone especially those who want to tinker and extract every bit of value for money (like I used too and why I’m a member here :p).

But for me the positives of the machine are exactly what I wanted from an itx build and I don’t really do enough AAA gaming or are fussed about graphics enough (I completed cyberpunk on the deck) for the negatives to affect me.
