*** Valve Steam Machine ***

They'll be announcing Steam Machine 3 and Steam Controller v7.0 by the time you get a delivery :p

I was actually still on my road trip on the 14th, I didn't get home until the 16th...I think I was in York that night. It could have been worse lol

I joined the controller queue a few days after it was announced and got the do you want an email for it last night, if you're feeling impatient you can have my spot :)

Parcelforce are a sensible lot and turned up automatically at lunch time with a brown box for me...

The size of this thing is mad, it doesn't feel big enough to be real. Got a free half an hour to tear it open and change the NVME then hopefully I get some gaming time with it tomorrow...

The last pic is for reference against the AMD BC-250 build, which is still pretty small! Will try and get a good one compared to a series X as well

It could be several months until your chance comes along if the rumours about low production / high demand are true. Some are saying next year for those who didn't place a pre-order immediately. I placed an order just over 12 hrs after launch and haven't heard anything yet.
I joined as soon as the reservations opened and got the email to purchase on 01/06.

Sure is tiny & compact. Love the form factor ... just not the performance or price point. Is that the 2Tb version ?

Have fun with it and let us know what you think once you get a moment to put it through its paces.

Can the link be forwarded or do you have to buy it then i buy it from you + postage?

If it's the latter then i am not that desperate for it. Spent enough money this month so I am happy to wait longer.

I'd be interested to know how it compares to the BC250 in terms of both performance and how loud the fan is.

Got the email to purchase today. 512Gb without controller. So I bought it (on Paypal credit 0% over 4 months)

People moan about the price but £146 of that £879 goes straight to the government in VAT. Factor in everything else and it's not such a bad deal.

Anyway. I have no intention of trying to play AAA modern games on this thing. That world is kinda dead to me. It's a retro thing to play all the (100+) PC games I have on Steam (and a few Sony ones not available on Xbox)

Half Life 3. Bring it on.

ah its the latter mate, I mean it'll end up being set the ship to address to your "ramen shop counter" but sadly just via my steam account, offer is there till Saturday either way

I purchased the 512gb version but didn't turn it on and put my 2tb drive straight in... I'll get it set up properly Friday and share my thoughts

Will share mate, the bc-250was really cool to game on but a bit loud (didn't go all in on setting it up) so I think this will have an easy ride with noise

It’s near silent . Loads quieter than my OG ps5 even when it’s using 99% gpu on black flag.

whereas my bc250 is as loud as my nearing its end of life ps4 was once it heats up. The flex psu brings most of the noise I think. I was very undecided on which to keep until the SM arrived but will be selling the bc250

Ye, it's all well and good making your own "more powerful and cheaper" builds, but you aren't coming close to the size and noise. It will be interesting to see if we get more interesting mini-itx products instead of Micro-atx if the steam machine gains more popularity, especially the next generation in the future.

We've got it on an open glass shelf (bottom of three) with about 400mm between the rear of the SM and the wall so it has fairly unrestricted airflow.

With TV volume at 15-20% I can't hear the SM at all even when its running flat-out. Need to drop to 10% volume before I can hear it clearly. I have fairly old ears though ;)

They look lovely, no doubt about it.

Shame the controller is in such limited supply and for so long. But I guess that was similar with the Steam Deck, Series X and PS5 when they all launched.

Finally gotten a little quite time to have a play, first thought's its pretty special. The size of the kit and the polish of the whole experience is really getting up there to the it just works Mac level, you press the steam button the pad to wake the console and tv from sleep then you're pc gaming in seconds, a bit like the power of the switch experience. Much more of a rapid get in there and get on with it than the Xbox series.

Getting into the cube yesterday and switching the NVME was easy with lots of well thought out design choices meant you could get to it with a few screws and then sliding the case out. Think it's only a little more to get to the ram as well (but didn't fancy going that far just to see if there's one stick or two).

Little gripe was getting the Steam OS re-immaged to the NVME, but that was because it wasn't clear to hold the power button till it goes purple to get it to boot to recovery mode. bit of user error there was it was late after beers trying to work it out, but my Mac brain wanted to hold a button combo and my pc brain wanted to go to a bios, neither remembered what to do with the deck but it wasn't a worry. Amusingly the Bazite install from the BC250 worked pretty well, even if it wasn't what I wanted.

The power of the eco system getting downloaded content from the deck to the machine was seamless, picked everything to install, went to bed, woke up with all games installed and shaders sorted. Couldn't ask for more :) need to try steaming from it across other devices next just for the fun of it.

Finally the controller is also flat out amazing, it has a really nice shape and weight to it, the stick feel really direct and precise to what you want to do and the buttons just feel great to use. Played Ori and Hollow Knight as platforming tests and it just gives some real confidence that what you want to do when you press the buttons is going to happen. It's that little bit nicer than the 8bitdo pad (which is also really good). Need to try out something that'll let me use the track pads as I love those on the deck.

All in all, I'm well happy! Still waiting to see how long till the mrs notices the change in things under the tv as well...
