Van needed for double mattress

You shouldn't need to fold it in half if you have a reasonable size estate, just bend up at the edges maybe.

ikea sell rolled up mattresses these days (granted probably not the cheap metal spring jobbies).

And this is pretty much correct. It's not really folding it, it's more bending it slightly with a bit of an arc.

If the OP is concerned about hiring or driving vans etc then this is easily the best option.

THREAD RESURRECTION!!!

So, my brother needs to shift a super-king matres and divan set. Looking at the above calculator, it would seem a SWB Transit or Vivaro should do fine.

Think that'll be OK?

I've just hired a Vivaro to move a bed. The load bay will certainly be long enough. But with a superking width might be an issue. You will probably have to have the mattress on the diagonal which isn't ideal. I would be inclined to go to the next biggest van which will probably be much taller inside letting you stand it up more easily.

No but good shout ;) :p

Diagonal isn't an issue for me as the bed can support some of the weight on the centre.

Our £1000 mattress got 'folded' into a car. No damage done. Clearly you wouldn't want to keep one folded for a long period of time.

how on earth did you manage that? :D I only just managed to get our mattress around the 90 degree turn half way up our stairs. Whilst it's no thousand pound mattress, it is 14" deep - there's no way that thing would fold up and fit in a car lol. I couldnt even do that with the old 10" matress it replaced, i had to cut that bloody thing up to get rid of it.

Get a long wheel base instead, if it's an option. I transported a king size in a long wheel base earlier in the year, there was plenty of room due to the height of the van. Would I have attempted it in a smaller one? Nope.
