Sure i removed the inbuilt YT app and download the recommended file can't remember the storage option perhaps that's where I went wrong, i even tried getting it to work on the Firestick but it wouldn't parse 2nd file the manager one can it work on android tvs btw ? or am i wasting my time with that.

Stick with SmartTubeNext for TVs, ReVanced is designed for mobile.

Wow seems very complicated, is there a reason they cant just supply an APK like vanced used to be?

Although I see using the magisk module potentially makes it a lot easier.

Probably so it's not linked to a single signature and harder for Google to block, although they have been targetting microG instead (there's a spoof signature patch that bypasses this).

Seems like my YT Vanced has now packed up, as i now get the 'The following content is not available on this app' error message; i am surprised it lasted this long though.

Is the census to use Revanced/Revanced Extended now? And if so, should i be using the XDA Forum Link or the Revanced GitHub Repo?
Have seen posts about the .io website and to stay away.

Yes, ReVanced is the way to go. I was using ReVanced Extended but moved back to ReVanced so I can also use the patcher for Twitter and eventually Reddit, not to mention the developer for Extended is taking a break so is now behind the main branch.

XDA links to the same GitHub repo so either will do, but the guide on XDA is more detailed if you need help.

YouTube will no longer play for more than a minute or two before it stops with a black screen, presumably where there's an ad,but it doesn't start playing again.
I've read revanced isn't working any more.
Is that true?

There's a client spoof patch for ReVanced you need to select, although it should be with the recommended patch selection with the recent versions of the manager. Make sure to go into Youtube settings -> ReVanced -> Misc and "Spoof app signature" is enabled.

How do you enable video preview when seeking?

As part of the signature spoofing patch, seekbar thumbnails are hidden. You can go into the settings -> revanced -> misc and turn off spoof app signature to get them back, but it may start buffering again.

Yup that's the issue. Noticed it as well on ReVanced 19.04.37. SmartTube is fine on my TV however.

Never used to iirc - the TVs I have/had used their own inbuilt YT app to handle the (Chrome)cast, so you just ended up with adverts.

I have a couple of nvidia shields running STube on them, so no adverts via that - until Google spoilt the fun that is, and block/lock down such apps. But then again, the beauty of Android means groups will find work-arounds eventually

Sorry, as in I don't have the cast button at all!

Last time I checked it was broken due to relying on microG. Alternative way is to pair it via Link to TV with code.

Working for me too, but the question was about YT Vanced and casting

I expect Vanced is basically dying a slow death, so casting won't be an option - revanced might have it, or just use a patched apk.

Sorry, meant with casting via Link with TV code from ReVanced to SmartTube. Was still working last time I checked.
