Vanced is no longer in development: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vanced/comments/tdazfr/discontinuation_of_the_vanced_project/

It still works but eventually YouTube will raise the working minimum app version before it forces you to "upgrade" to the latest version.

Alternatives to remove ads is either pay up for YouTube Premium, or if you don't mind not syncing your account, NewPipe:

There's also a fork of NewPipe with SponsorBlock:

If you have Android TV, there's SmartTubeNext:

The ~£1.20 a month for Premium via India VPN is much better imho. Especially if you watch youtube on TV.

This is what me and 2 of my mates have done. We have opened a YouTube premium account for around £1.50/month, plus a Spotify family account for £17/month. We tied our accounts together which makes it £18.50 all-in and thus ~£6.20 per person and I set up a standing order of £6.20 to the 'master' account holder. Done it for years and works a treat :) It also works on the desktop and on my new TV.

Cheaper via Argentina VPN.

Gutted, I love Vanced... I suppose it was too good to last though.

I just looked at signing up from Argentina but Youtube says premium isn't available there? Have they temporarily disabled it due to the number of new subs exceeding the population of Argentina or something? :p

I'm going to go and read up on the reddit threads to try to understand this but it sounded like they got greedy with NFT's or something? Which gave google a route to be able to issue a C&D order.
Vanced has become one of the main reasons to use android for many people. What a sad day.
If people move to alternatives, how will they also survive?
I had been running a very old version of vanced as I prefered the way the interface worked for a couple of features. I updated it the other day because it stopped working on my phone - assume it must have been related to this - and now have only just come to experience the sponsor block stuff. Incredible. Love it.
I wonder when it will actually stop working then. :(

They claim it wasn't because of NFTs (they tried to turn their logo into one) but only Google and the developers will really know. Either way it was eventually going to happen since it was a modded version of the official app, surprised Google didn't clamp down on it sooner.

It'll stop working when Google changes the API. I'm guessing you were on version 14 or something with the old UI? Next branch to stop working is 15, then 16, and eventually 17 so Vanced should continue working for the next couple of years if you're on the latest version.
