Vanity is not a sin...

Thanks, Steedie. ;)

Deadlifts, today.

DEADLIFTS 70*5, 110*3,, 140, 160, 180, 200kg (BOOM! PB!) Yeah. 200kg was pretty heavy and ugly. I did it in Olympic shoes, too = not clever.
DEADLIFTS (5-4-4-3-3) 160-160-160-170-170.
SNATCH GRIP RDLs (8s) 90-100-100 Oh, my hamstrings and glutes. :( :D
OHP (5s) 40-60-60-60 Nice. Something tight in my left shoulder, however...

Deadlift @ 200kg

Nice way to end a hypertrophy training blcok... with PBs. Still pretty happy, and I'm pretty sure deadlifting - as much as I think it's designed for tractors - is definitely helping my Olympic lifting. :D

Weighed in this morning after the session (And a dump) at 96.3kg. Not bad.

BOOM! Good work, looked comfortable to be fair, at least nothing appeared to look horrible, other than the weird double set up head look thing :p

You was being mired anyway ;)

Cheers guys. :)

I started my religious fast on Sunday, so no food/drink between sunrise and sunset. This means my trinaing is getting completely reshuffled (as outlined a few posts ago) in line with something I can achieve without ruining the rest of my day (i.e. falling asleep at work).

So... testing the waters to day to determine how much Olympic lifting will ruin me.

OVERHEAD SQUAT (3s) 40-40-50
SNATCH BALANCE (3s) 40-40-50 Knee position good... A bit further forward than I'd be ultimately comfortable with, however.
HANG SNATCH (3s) 50-60 Easy.
FULL SNATCH (3s) 60-60-60 It's clear to see I've been doing mostly hang work. :D Only bailed on one from each of the first two sets, but that's more than I'm used to.

A pretty light workout, but as I can't drink/refeed afterwards, I'm trying to keep the overall volume low.

Practically, this will form the basis for my morning workouts whilst my body adjusts, and I'll start ramping the intensity as the days go by.

It happens every year. :)

As a Baha'i, it's one of the things all adults do at this time of year as a means of "spiritual preparation" in advance of our new year, the 21st March. Similar - in principle - to Ramadan (in that they're both periods of fasting for spiritual purposes).

As my training is a bit diffierent from where I was last year (home gym, etc.) I'm paying slightly more attention to how it works in the context of this period in the Baha'i calendar.

Practically, the "not eating/drinking" bit is a bit of a red herring, because I struggle much more with the spiritual bit (i.e. not being an absolutely PITA at work/home/etc.) :D

Fair enough buddy. I'd probably drop down and pass out if I didn't eat :p

Heh. I've been bulking for the past two months, so I've probably got enough glycogen alone to survive the full 19 days without food... before my body even thinks about fat stores. :(

However, depending on how much strength I lose over this period, I may look at using it to see how far I can cut. It would be amusing to fit back into the 85kg category for a couple of reasons:

1) It would show how useless I am at bulking (currently weight in at around 95.5kg empty);
2) Provided I can keep my strength up, it will mean I don't have to lift as much should I compete.

Let's have a think at which is more likely... :D

Gadzooks. Working out fasted and dehydrated is an interesting experience...

BACK SQUAT (3s) 50-70-90-110-110-110-110-110 Low reps to stress nervous system rather than muscles. These were HARD. :D
OHP (5s) 40-50-50-55-65(3)-60(3) See what happened there? :D
WG CHINS (5s) BW-10-14-20
FRONT SQUAT (1s) 70-90-115-120 120kg was DIRTY. Only reason I tried it was because 115 was so clean.

Circulating prolactin and cortisol levels have probably breached dangerous thresholds, but that workout felt AWESOME. I'm looking forward to going completely thermogenic in the car once that glucose kicks in at 17:42...

Big leg DOMS today... despite eating around 2000 calories' worth of food in around 3 hours. :D

OVERHEAD SQUAT (5s) 40-40-50
SNATCH BALANCE (5s) BAR-40-50 Changed this slightly, so my feet start in the landing position and don't move during the drop'n'catch. Interesting, and really forces thought about what feet, bum trunk, knees, etc. are doing. Good for motor pattern.
BELOW-KNEE HANG SNATCH (3s) 50-60
SNATCH (3s) 60-70-70(f1f) A bit slow, but the catch position is a million miles better than it was just a few weeks ago. Last set I was just knackered. :)

So. Not hitting the volume I'd like on the Olympic lifts proper, (do I even clean?), but the technical work - at its low intensity - is arguably more important whilst I can't muster the oomph for the 'big' lifts.

No cleans at the moment, because they'd murder me after a couple of relatively heavy singles.

For those that are interested in 'weightloss', I weighed in last week at around 98kg fully loaded, and somewhere around 96.5kg 'clean'. Yesterday, pre-workout, I weighed 94.3kg... showing how easy it is to drop weight simply through a mild calorie deficit and water loss. Yesterday evening, after all the food and water, I was at 97kg and literally couldn't fit any more food in. :D

In other words, actual fatloss very clearly starts a good while after the body's natural stores of energy deplete from 'very high' levels associated with either bulking or a rubbish diet. I'm aware this is stating the obvious to those that know, but it's an important reminder for those on fad diets that promise results in 2 weeks or whatever. :)

EDIT Afternoon session. :D

BACK SQUAT (3s) 115-115-115-115-115
FRONT SQUAT (3s) 70-100-120(1)-120(1)
SUPINATED CHINS (5s) +20, +30, +30

Front squat felt much better, and back squats are just tiring. :)

Trying to align my routine to something relatively sensible...

BENCH (3s) 70(5)-90(5)-100-100-100
STIFF-LEGGED SG DEADLIFT FROM FLOOR (3s) 110-140-130-130-130-130(2f) For the lolz. Completely wrecked everything from the base of my neck to my Achilles... love it. This, combined with DBSS, could perhaps be the ultimate butchery.
CANDLESTICKS *5
DRAGONFLAGS *5 Because they're awesome.

Just for icecold's angrywrestler.gif... ;) :D

:D

Groce.

Although due to your deliciously flexible hips that was kind of like a bottom up RDL

It was pretty disgusting. :D

You make those look so easy...

Yeah - must be the camera angle.

OVERHEAD SQUAT (5s) 40
SNATCH BALANCE (5s) 40-40-50
HANG POWER SNATCH (5s) 40
SNATCH (3s) 50-60-70-70-70(f1f) Bar is coming too far fowards, and couldn't persuade my knees and core to get with the programme.
SNATCH PULLS (3s) 110-110-110 Weirdly, my brain seemed to engage and these worked a treat. :o

I'm sitting here, now, and my glutes are not happy at all. Yesterday's exuberance probably didn't help. :D

Afternoon session will be squats and pressing. I think.

EDIT: Just squats. :D

BACK SQUAT (3s) 120-120-120-120-120
FRONT SQUAT (1s) 120-120-120

Bro came round last night, so didn't hit the gym at home this morning...

SNATCH BALANCE (5s) 40-40-50
HANG SNATCH (5s) 50-60-70(3)-70(3)-80(1)
BACK SQUAT (3s) 115-115-115-125-125-125-125 Misloaded the bar, so by the time 125kg came around, I was started to flaaaaaaaaaaaag.
CANDLESTICKS (5s) 2 sets...

A bit of a mix'n'match but, I needed to cover some bases.

That was a nice 200 DL man, congrats (playing log catchup :p)

Heh - thanks. Welcome back. ;)

Part of me wonders if I should keep up the agricultural stuff as it generally seemed to improve which - for a hypertrophy routine - was curious.

But... I miss the speed. :D
