Hi all, for some reason someone has taken it upon themselves to try and wreck my car at any opportunity they can get  2 flat tyres and has now been walked all over with a dented roof, I have no idea who it is as I dont have any enemys, so Im looking around for a affordable decent security camera I can hook up to my PC, and record anything that moves, ill sit it in the window looking out on my car, so folks who knows the most about this?

You'l need one that has both day and night vision capabilities, preferably USB, and the accompanying software that only activates recording through motion detecting.

Hrm, let me do some searching. I had to set up a system not unlike what you're wanting out at the airport.

*wanders off to go find old links......*

Also, try to get one of those movement activating lights, something quite bright if you can, to shine right on the car, it should detter them a bit.

Yes, a set of these with a rather loud stereo plugged into one of the light sockets!!

Plonker comes into yard, activates motion sensor light. Light comes on and stereo starts blasting music. Plonker is bathed in VERY bright light, and you are fully awake to use a normal still camera to take a clear picture of his face for the local police to use.

Ew, wouldn't work then as every passing car or pedestrian would be keeping you awake all night!!

Oh, well. Still searching for camera for you....

You don't live near me do you? I've been having hassle with kids and my car as well... Infact kids in general doing stuff to our house!! Grrr!

We even had them take a dump on our doorstep, we assumed it was kids instead of a dog because there was used toilet paper near it and it was in the perfect place to tred in when you opened the door and walked out.

One day I'll spot them doing it...

Cheers so far for all help people, no street, live in wales,

Iv found this so far myself:

how would I connect it to PC ?

Get that 20 quid camera, you need either a PVR card or a simple tv card (as long as it has composite in)

Any snags catch me on msn ([email protected]), i'm currently fitting some cameras to a local club during their refit. (plymouth peeps, 'molesters' looks very nice inside now :))

I used a program that was used in conjunction with your webcam once (I cant remember its name). It simply had motion detection on the software so that it would start recording once anything moved within the area specified on the camera's view. Id place the camera looking out your window onto the car, preferably a high resoltion camera sat on a tripod? This in combination with motion activated security lights surely would be good enough.

In Reference to the op, do you have an alarm on your car? if not get one of those ones that shouts at people that go near your car. should be some kind of deterrent. if not get a transformer for your battery and liven up your body work ! ;) :p :D

When this was happening to our cars the police gave us a camera to use for a while.

seriously thats a good idea, how can this be done ? if it gives them a nasty shock touching my car, i think that would put them off

Or they would come back for more and you'll be worse off. :/
