Hi.

i recently discovered that many of the pc games installed on my computer either crashes after it loads or after playing for about 20-30mins.

I first noticed this happening when i bought the Division a week ago and thought it was just the game that had issues.

I disabled the uplay and steam overlay and uninstalled nvidia experience to try and fix the issue on division but it still would crash at random times(longest it has not crashed is an hour of gameplay)

Today i got fed up with division and tried on Battlefield 1. Again same issue?!?!

Battlefield 1 was running perfectly fine only 3-4 weeks ago??!?!?!

I then tried GTA5 and PCARS and yes again they both crash?

I then downloaded and installed a utility that completely removes graphics drivers and tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers again and still no joy, all my games seem to crash?

I remembered that win 10 recently had a big update diddnt it? Could this be the problem?

Here is my full specs:

  • Windows 10 OS
  • 64GB DDR4 Ram
  • intel i7 5820K @3.2GHZ
  • 2x Nvidia 980gtx in sli mode

Cheers in advance

How many sticks of ram are you using with the 64GB? Did you add more recently and the issues arise? Try running memtest to see if you may need to bump a little voltage if using a single GPU fails.

I had this kind of issue a while back after years of being stable. Had to up the CPU voltage a notch and it's been rock solid since. Not a single crash. Probably worth posting your settings so the hardware gods on here can take a look.

What kind of crash are we talking here?

I'm going to assume you have kept on eye on temps, so try these steps in order

Clean dust from fans and case. Try a game
Remove all overclocks. Try a game
Use only one stick of RAM at a time. Try a game
Use one GPU at a time. Try a game
Reseat and clean your CPU then apply fresh paste. Try a game
Buy/borrow a new PSU. Try a game

Worse case scenario a fresh windows install im afraid

Do you have a good enough PSU to cope with running 2 GTX980s?

Yes. cant remember exact model but its one of those corsair 800w gold stamp module psu.

4x 16gb.

i had purchased these rams 2-3months ago and games like BF1 where running fine, no crashes.
If CPU is overclocked put back to stock and see if that sorts out issue.
Nothing is OCed on my machine.

Something like this dialog box pops up (Game xyz is not responding, click close program)

Just played division for about 45min no crash and both gpu running max 75c

theres a odd issue with some 980's where high fps under low load will cause it to crash with a grey or coloured screen, ive had it do that on Wolfenstein too (60fps cap?), dropping the power limit and gpu clocks fixes it
90 power limit, -105gpu and 0 mem, +10mv core voltage

itll be fine under most normal games, just some slight bug in the bios or firmware or something and itll crap out in helldivers while its doing 300fps or something.

be worth running memtest86 too tbh, thatll find a duff stick or ram setting really quick

More info would help. If it's a blue screen crash, try to get the details. In the meantime a clean installation of video drivers is a good place to start.

Like others are saying, if (and only if) you've overclocked that CPU, it might need a tiny bit of extra core voltage for stability. Any changes in the hardware or software environment can expose an instability that wasn't apparent before.

Finally, that memory sounds pretty new. Have you still got some old sticks to test? If not, run memtest to check for stability.

I'd try running with just two sticks of RAM to see if it makes any difference, 32GB should still be plenty for gaming.

i had a similar issue with TD. disabled all overlays (fps counters, steam and uplay) and still happened.

when i realised the W10 Xbox app was also applying an overlay i turned that off and my crashing seems to have gone away. try pressing win+G and turning it off.

Cool ok I'll try some of the suggestions here.

Why would overlays make games crash? It was perfectly fine before?

Dx12 related?

edit: Now Origin wont load now. I loads a blank window for a few seconds and then dissapears

Have you disabled SLI and removed a card?

Also. Nip into event Viewer then Windows logs>Applications and try and find a games crash and read the report. Should tell you if it is a driver failure
