VAT receipts from petrol stations

I find I usually have to ask for one. I get them because they have the number of litres on them, I write the trip reading on the receipt then reset it.

It's so I can work out the mpg later on, I also like having some proof of purchase.

I always got asked in the UK and considered getting them.

I am pretty sure I cannot retrospectively claim back VAT for Petrol I use in the car while in the UK though :D

When I had my Mondeo I got asked all the time if I wanted a VAT receipt since changing to a Celica again I've not been asked once and I only ever fill up at one place.

Quite simple really, Why do I sometimes get asked if I'd like a VAT receipt and other times not? I go to the same petrol station week in week out but depending on who is serving, some ask me, some don't

Why do they seem to think I should be able to claim it back?

I'm guessing it's a pain in the ass for them if they bin it then you walk back in and say, "oops, forgot! can I have the VAT receipt? :D"

If it's a super market station they should be asking every customer as part of the standard speel that you are told to give each customer. It's like asking everyone who comes in for a pint of milk if they have purchased any fuel.

Those who are not offering you a VAT reciept are not following procedure.

I know they stop the ****ing school vouchers then start these

Oh well at least i don't need to ask people if they have fuel vouchers they normally just remember :p

You dont have to print the fuel voucher out separately anyway do you? It is just part of the standard till receipt print run?

It is more that we need to enter the amount discounted manually. You would have thought they would be able to setup something to take off 5p for every litre that has been shown at the pump

Whenever I go to sainsburys its on a barcode and you scan it in and it automatically takes 5p off. Sounds a bit ropey at tesco if you ask me.

Not exactly a big ask? :p They even give the cashiers a chart to read it off!

It is a big ask when they could do it like all the other vouchers they give the customers, however even if they did do barcode ones it would take just as long as the scanners are crap :p

Do you work in the didcot tesco garage? If so, can i come and have double discount? (i'm only up the road) :D
