Vauxhall recalls self-combusting Corsas

I don't see how you can say a whole range of cars are not good based on (probably) limited experience.

Ok, I apologise. I was wrong to say all Vauxhalls are rubbish.

All Vauxalls are rubbish with the exception of the Omega, the VX220, the VXR8 and the Monaro.

Omega

Thought they got slated like any other Vauxhall apart from the VX220, VXR8 and the Monaro.

Fantastic cars just.. not particularly reliable. Otherwise spot on. In a class of their own with no real competition given the Ford Scorpio was.. well...

why does the omega escape being rubbish?

i would add the carlton gsi3000 to that list as they are cracking cars.

Just dont expect the VXR8 or Monaro's side airbag to go off when it should :p

And dont be suprised if you have to remove more plastic then on micheal jackson just to change something simple like a light bulb and definatly dont expect them to screw anything on propperly. BLOODY XMAS TREE PLUGS!!! :p :(

Australian car quality sucks willy :(

What better or worse? - I'm just quoting some crappy figures I found from the nearest Google search you know. ;) :D

Better I'd hope! I'll leave the Oracle of statistics to Fox, but to put it into perspective, the 26.3 second 0-100, less the 8.9 second 0-60 (BS to that too) as found on fastsaloons.com would mean that the run from 60-100 takes 17.4 seconds, or a comparable time to the 0-100 time of the mighty 530i (yes fox, in the wet!!! ;)).

I have have no better figures to back me up, and am far too lazy to look, but I have trouble swallowing that you could let a 530d, a car renouned for it's mid-range performance get to 60mph before setting off in the 530i, and have them both hit 100mph at the same time...

I was very impressed with the Astra VXR when I had a go. As a passenger an evo FQ320 (or what ever it was) pulled about 3-4 car lenghs by 140, a bit more when round abouts were involved obviously, but the handling isn't as bad as people make out.

All on private road.

probably not a standard vxr then because i would expect to be 10 car length's ahead by 100mph in an fq320 as the astra aint known to be that good off the line.there are loads of different performance figures out their for the astra, most are like 16seconds to 100mph which is pathetic for 237bhp.my fiat did 14.5 with 220bhp and the same weight, smaller tyres and no traction control and that would lose out big style to an fq320 to 100mph but yeah would start reeling him in the higher the speeds get

sounds like you were in an evo260

I have never driven one, but a lot of people get their ideas from Clarkson type people, lots of front wheel drive cars will understeer if you plant your foot fully and turn the wheel full lock

I'm sure driven by a decent driver they aren't as bad as people try and make out.

Apart from the fact they are made with more plastic then a Japnese dashbored :p

it was actually very comfy inside but yeah the dash was very very big?

It wasn't standard the VXR it was 295BHP after a remap, breathing and exhaust.

It's not that great off the line, unless you can control the throttle properly (with TC off). After that it's very quick. I was impressed with how quick it was after 100 mainly.

I was in the VXR btw against the evo and it definately was FQ3**, The evo driver had a chat with us and said that he likes them and he's come up against a few very quick ones.
