Hi i upgraded my system from a 4790K 16gb ram to a 3800X 32gh ram with a new Msi motherboard when i tried to boot up with the same Vega 56 reference i got a screen blinking and no visuals at all so i thoght the motherboard was faulty and rma time so i bought a new Gigabyte board and the same thing happend
So i put in an old R6670 i had and it works fine exept for a driver issue

How can the Vega 56 work in one machine but not another as its the same 750 watt corsair psu ?
(which dousnt need the 2 extra 8 pin sockets as its just board powerd)
so the card must be faulty or the psu and ill have to give it to a pc shop to test and how can i break a card by just removing it ? no bent pins or anything

any ideas ?

Is it possible the bios has got corrupted ? i have never done anything to the card as its just a stock reference card which is now 2.5 years old and out of warranty also i was waiting for the Radeon 5800 series to come out and sell the Vega 56 to help fund the next card as i always do
I am not sure about the card having a dual bios ?

Did you installed fresh windows?

Can you build the old system core parts on the box to test the vega.
Sorry i cant as i sold them fairly cheap on that site to get rid as ive moved on i have another 750 watt psu but i remember that its not 80% rated and didnt run modern cards so thats why i bought the corsiar 750 but that was 10 years ago ?
i am still thinking of trying the bios switch as thats the only thing i havent done and i have also updated the motherboard bios as well

In the first post it sounds like it's not even posting, so OS is not relevant?
It does post sometimes then goes blank for a few seconds then comes back then dissapears completly ?
but the ancient R6670 works fine also changing slots makes no difference
i am thinking the bios has been corrupted somehow ?

yes a fresh install

Panos have you ever heard of this happening to anyone before as its a new one on me ?

a) Which MSI motherboard?
b) Push the card to the slot to make sure doesn't go more. Reason is many motherboards having shield (eg most X570/470) need bit more brutal push to properly put the card on the socket and they tend to get out easier. That from experience with Vega 64 & 5700XT on the X570 Taichi.....
c) Do you use 2 power cables from the PSU to the card and not using splitter cable yes?
d) Have you connected all the power cables to the motherboard, not only the 24-pin one?

But computers do weird things sometimes.

Heh, last Sunday took the case out to given it a good clean with the air compressor and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.....
The GPU had gone lose!!!!! While was working fine 5 minutes earlier and wasn't moved but 2 metre, just out of the door to the balcony.

The 2nd new motherboard is a Gigabyte gaming x and the previous was an Msi gaming plus both cheapish but fine for my needs
Is it possible the Vega got corrupted by the connection to the display post touching the case ? and only the middle dispaly port works on the card ? is that not a bit odd ? i didnt know if the other display ports ever worked as i have never tried them

Here's an idea. Does the motherboard have more than 1 PCIe slot? Maybe the slot you are using is not 16x? It's a little unlikely, but if there's another PCIe slot maybe give it a go?

That said, I'd expect it to boot correctly even if the card were in a 8x PCIe slot. But computers do weird things sometimes.

I have tried that but no difference thanks

Hmmmm. Try. If one of them works use it. :)

Couple of things worth trying to see if it does anything are switching the card to the second bios, disabling PCI-E 4.0 for the PCI-E slots (it won't make any diff with a gen 3 card anyway), and also run the HD6670 as the primary GPU and the V56 as the second GPU to see if it shows up in Windows.

Thanks I’ll try that when I get home
