Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

Thanks again. I've been looking at reviews and initially they looked fairly equal, with the 1070 pushing ahead in a few titles my son likes. But I then found a few reviews updating their results for 2019 and the V56 appears to have pulled quite a bit ahead of the stock 1070 and approaches a 1080 in some games. I was genuinely surprised.

Thanks. It looks like the V56 is a cracking card and I've been happy with the V64 in my own machine.

Don't think that's enough of a discount for second hand considering they cost £236 new.
Thanks. But the only V56 I can find for £236 are for reference coolers. This one has a better cooler.

EDIT: Decided to go for it. It's a B grade item from here so it's returnable if there are issues when I receive it and it has a 90 day warranty. Thanks all.

I've cancelled my V56 order and will see what happens this Weds. Thanks for the heads up.

Depending on what the offers are then I might be tempted to push for a V64 instead.

When deals? :p

On the V64's, and I assume the V56, then you can get waterblocks more easily for the blower models.

Are you guys expecting anything more than £10-20 off? This is OCUK we are talking about after all
I'm actually not expecting much at all. Even though I'm ready to buy I will only do so if the deal is a good one. Otherwise I will just keep looking (including elsewhere).

The whole new generation is dissapointing IMHO especially if you are a more mainstream GPU buyer. Who would have thought Vega would be the price/performance champion under £300!! :p

The Gigabyte non-blower isn't much more though.
I almost got a Gigabyte non blower until I looked at the reviews.

Generally the afvice when I bought my V64 was to get a Sapphire or Powercolour non blower. I assume that's the same for the V56.

I'm in no rush. I am building my son a PC of his own so I can reclaim mine. But if nothing of good value/price/performance turns up thrn I will just put my V64 in his system for a while until I can get ine of us something. I will just dig out my spare trusty old 7970 for myself in the mean time. I still have a bit of time anyway as I am seeing what happens with Ryzen 3k before buying a CPU and motherboard. Also happy to buy used components if a good set turns up.

Yes I did read a few. How do they get out the door when they're that bad? Commercial suicide.
It's because the market for AMD cards is small. So some manufacturers don't design a cooler for it. They simply adapt an existing nVidia cooler from their range to save money. So it isn't as efficient or may not cool some parts of the card. They may be fine running stock in a well ventilated case. But start pushing them and using them in poor ventilation and they don't perform as well.

I understand that Sapphire and Powercolour did design proper Vega coolers, which is why they are recommended.

Not sure what some of you guys are expecting for £200 on OcUK.

Right now you get RX 590's at lowest price of £200.

Lowest price of Vega 56 is £249.

The Vega 56 is around 50% more performance than a 580/590 yet some of you are wanting Vega for the same price?

I paid (after selling the games) £325 for my Red Dragon Vega 56 last year and its a cracking card, after tinkering with it, its better than stock Vega 64 and better than some GTX 1080's.

Grab the Pulse or the Red Dragon while they're on offer now.

Bitcoin is picking up pace again at $10k so theres a chance you wont see these prices for much longer.

Ya bunch of penny pinchers! :D
When I started the thread there were several B grade V56 for £200. I don't think anyone was expecting that price new. But it seems several of us would bite at about £250.
