VEGA 64 or Gtx 1080 do I need freesync?

For me FreeSync was a no brainer ~1yr+ ago.

If I looked at say a G-Sync monitor from same manufacturer as a FreeSync offering there was ~£100-£200 difference (at the time).

If I understand it correctly TVs are pegged to gain FreeSync, which could be an added bonus for AMD GPU owners :) .

1 & 2. Really no ones going to be looking to tie themselves into free sync with the current crop of cards on offer. I get that a tiny percentage think they are ‘tied’ into free sync hence ‘having’ to buy vega but No one in their right mind would seek to tie themselves into free sync if they don’t have to!

You're looking at it backwards, instead of focusing on the cards (which give the same price performance) look at the monitors, the Freesync ones are cheaper and have a much better selection as FS is winning the format war. People (usually) keep a monitor a lot longer than a GFX card, which means the actual cards are less relevant to people buying a new monitor/card combo who want adaptive sync.

To put it in perspective, imagine it's the late 80's or whatever, the choice is between a VHS player or a Betamax player. There isn't really much difference between them just that the Betamax player is more expensive and has a much smaller selection available due to smaller market share.

3. There are plenty of cards that can fit into small cases. Again it’s a lame reason.

I didn't actually say small cases just ones that require blowers, and while I agree it is a very weak reason to go with V64 over 1080, it is A reason and you did claim that 0 existed.

4. Yep I’ll give you that
Thank you.

5. Absolutely it’s miners buying Vega I’m sure.
Unlikely, it's mining performance for the price is quite lacklustre.

If I was choosing a format today Free sync may work out cheaper although not sure it does with the cost of vega at the moment. However even if a free sync combo does work out cheaper I simply couldn’t recommend it to anyone as vega launched doa, can’t comoete with pascal let alone the soon to be here Volta. It doesn’t give me any confidence for Navi so I wouldn’t be looking to lock myself in to not even last gen performance for the foreseeable. That doesn’t even begin to factor in noise/power/heat issues that plague vega.

To be blunt I wouldn't expect otherwise given the irrational hatred of AMD/Vega you show on this subject.

That doesn’t even begin to factor in noise/power/heat issues that plague vega.
Luckily then that those "issues" are mostly fictional.

Noise wise the AIO/aftermarket cooled Vega cards are not noticeably worse than the AIO/aftermarket cooled GTX1080s, and the blower V64 is actually better than the blower GTX1080. As for power consumption it's a negligible amount on the monthly bill, unless you game 24/7 (nobody does that, you would die) you're literally taking about an extra £1 a month approx. As for heat generation it makes absolutely zero difference, using a computer under load will cause the heat in the room will rise until it becomes uncomfortable and you are forced to open a door/window (or turn the air conditioning on), the fact that will happen a minute or two sooner with Vega than with Pascal is moot.

This is why those "issues" re only complaints when they affect AMD, because Nvidia fanboys don't rave about irrelevant stuff when their team is the one suffering from it.

Heat generation wil cause the card to throttle. Stop with this room heating up rubbish!

Look if you see Vega as a fantastic product then that’s fine. Knock yourself out. Would I recommend a product that clearly flopped over far more established competition that is about to better itself again. Nope I wouldn’t. If that amounts to irrational hatred then shoot me down!

It's a bit telling that we have AIB 1070tis before any vegas.

I don't think vega is a clear cut buy even with a freesync screen.

I bought one at what I consider a reasonable price for the package offered. But I could have been using a 1080 for over a year and not having been compromising with a 290x.

If AB had more voltage control then my vega would be absolutely fine. At the moment I can only do - 100mv even though the cards good for lower. Watt man is pretty crap.

Although I do find my vega to run comfortably at x temperatures and y heat, but out of the box it's a sham.
