Just yesterday booked for Tropicana. Was well reviewed and looked like a good location on the strip. Doesn't look very interesting from the outside, not themed much, but I don't think it's really an issue. Hopefully will be decent!

I believe the rooms have all recently been refurbished. I played quite a bit of craps in the casino. Slots are quite good in there too but not a huge choice. Friendly enough place without being pretentious. Don't remember it having many bars or amenities though.

It's across the road from Excalibur ( visit stone cold creamery in here for epic ice creams) MGM Grand and NYNY so not a bad location to get you started. Do what the wife and I normally do; get up reasonably early and take the tram to Mandalay Bay from Excalibur then make your way down the strip going from hotel to hotel having a drink or two in each. By the time you get to the Strat you will be quite merry :)

whats this?

When you check in at the main desk, give them a $20 dollar bill (tip) and ask if they have any upgrades. They'll check and upgrade your room if any are available.

If you're lucky, you can end up with a room a lot more expensive than the one you originally booked.
