Vertex 3's - To RAID or not to RAID?

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of my first new build in 4 years and haven't quite decided on the last and most important component: my first SSD.

I've been waiting for the next gen drives and the Vertex 3 looks perfect so I'm going to jump. I've been reading the reviews, and I've seen the blistering performance, and reviewers saying that it makes RAID redundant (see what I did there? :)), but I've only seen comparisons of a single Vertex3 to RAIDed prev gen drives.

So I'm wondering, naturally, what happens if I buy two 120gb Vertex 3's and run them in RAID0 on the Sandybridge Intel SATA6G controller, vs a single 240gb?

Seeing they aren't actually out until next week I realise that any answer is going to be speculation - what do you think?

I'm aware of the risk of data loss. I ran Velociraptors in RAID 0 for years. That's what backup is for :)

TRIM however - how much do the drives really slow down without this?

I think you're right. One 240gb it is. Looking at the stats I'm looking at a MASSIVE increase in performance from my single 300gb Raptor which has been doing me so well the last few years.

I think I was just starting to get greedy for more performance :D
