Vertex 4 firmware update

Just noticed that I think they snuck a firmware update past me and wondered if any V4 owners had tried it out and how it compared to the older firmware?

Don't know... but my Vertex 4 has just failed on me ... not detected in BIOS and no LED showing, should be either green (normal) or red. Luckily I do drive level back ups via Acronis True Image (sigh).

I've always been an advocate of OCZ SSD's (much against the tide) got two others in my system. But think I'll pick up a Samsung. Not sure that I can even be messed with RMA'ing it!

PS. Slightly off thread I know.

PPS. It's been so long since I've used mech HD's (except for bulk storage) that I'd almost forgotten how slow even a Velociraptor drive is as your boot drive.

I think I might be on 1.5 anyway, I don't have the toolbox app installed but under the drive Properties > Details > Hardware ID's, I think it shows the firmware version.

I'm sure when 1.5 came out I looked and it had some description that it was only a minor update and not necessary to upgrade. I think mine must have shipped with 1.5 as I don't recall updating it.

Recently I noticed it said 1.5.1 on OCZ but not sure if it is actually a newer update.

@mikeo would have thought still worth an RMA as the 128GB is around £100 new, more obviously if its the 256.

Decided that you are right... RMA now in progress. Keeping fingers crossed that they wont have any spare Vertex 4's knocking around and that I might get a Vertex 450/460 as a replacement. I've been warned that the RMA might take a couple of weeks (rather than the more usual 48 hours for failed SSD's) due to their being bought out by Toshiba (so says the OCZ man on their forum).

Though I've already bought a Samsung 840 EVO to replace it, as I could not stand running my OS on a mech HD again (even an enterprise class drive). Benchmarks slightly faster than the Vertex 4 (but it is a 256GB) though needless to say, the system feels no faster in day-to-day use (no surprise really).

That's what I was thinking with the RMA but I'm a bit out of touch with their current line up, I was thinking you might be lucky and get a Vector, is the Vector still their fastest one? Is the EVO faster than the Pro?
Had no idea they had been bought by Toshiba I guess at least it means they are still around as I did wonder if the 5 year warranty would amount to anything with fears that they could go bust.
