Dont know what to make of this really, Im a tad disappointed that write speeds seem to be reduced from the stated 160mbps to allow for greater IO

Right Ladies and Gents...its update time

What you see below is the product of much debate between myself and our head flash engineer. We are in the final stages if deciding firmware and we are considering what you see below will be our firmware for high IO performance.

So this is option 1 from the POLL

The sequential write speed is way lower than FW10, however the IO performance 4K RW 10GB file 2 min test is around 2500IO/s which is what I predicted. Peaks were over 2550 and dips around 2450 IO's during the test.

Now things you need to remember.

My drive is not final hardware..its really close though. Read speeds are forecast to be a tiny bit higher on final drives...somewhere around 220 to 230MB/s. Writes are the same as you see here.

It has also been confirmed you will not have to open the drives to reflash firmware. And I will push to make different firmware available which will include bug fixes etc.

Speeds on the 30 and 60GB drives are very close to the 120 and 250's with this firmware..if anything 80 writes and 210 reads.

Its not set in stone yet...I just wanted to show we can do 2500IO/s with these drives, I will know more later if this will become shipping firmware.

IOPs are really important and make a big difference to overall performance, especially as a system drive or anywhere you will typically be writing small files randomly.

Also OCZ have another thread on their forum that states a new firmware will be available soon that should improve sequential writes as well. You will be able to update you own firmware. See below.

The only downside to updating the firmware is that you'll lose all the data on the drive. But I'm sure this is not a problem for serious enthusiasts, who will ghost the drive and restore the image afterwards. I can't confirm this, but apparently Acronis True Image 2009 is the best method for doing this.

yep, it seems a fresh install or ghosting ONLY the partition and not the drive, then set up a correct partition properly aligned then restoring the partition is the way to go. Shame it wipes the drive, again something making me wonder what the heck to do. I'm trying to not upgrade everything constantly as I'm fed up with it. But if its a decent performance boost I'll end up wiping and starting fresh.

I'm just wondering how much i'd gain with just a 30gb drive, though considering it, i'm very tempted by the samsung but seen so many conflicting numbers, a couple reviews suggested a single drive could do 150ish mb/s reads, while its only rated at 90-100, and Lejimster your raid numbers suggest closer to the later(and doubled roughly).

I think more than anything the complete lack of say a Anandtech type site doing a writeup with new tweaks across many ssd's to give a clearer picture of how it all stands now. Are the stuttery drives all but fixed with vastly improved performance with the right tweaks? which would mean the "cheaper" ocz mlc's might offer pretty decent value now.
