Vertical Sync & The 360

The display device cannot force vsync; that is up to the console itself.

So its a console issue?

Its unsatisfactory IMO and M$ needs to sort it out asap

I think its more up to the game developers to put a stop to it. Theres plenty of games out there on the 360 that dont suffer from this.

Yeah I don't think it is a console issue per se, but a software issue which is the responsibility and fault of game developers. All MS could do is give them a kick up the backside not to release sub-standard games.

So is this something that only affects PAL versions of the 360 - something to do with the 50Hz PAL vs LCD 60Hz mismatch? Do NTSC consoles/games have tearing, too?

Ive had the LCD in 50 & 60 mode, both tear.

I've had it on a 100 crt, it still tears.

DA is supposed to be one of the worst for this, i think UBISOFT or whoever made it should refund everyone whose having to put up with the gash graphics on their substandard product.

Funnily enough if you are getting tearing this is actually a 'good thing' in the sense that it means your framerate is running at a very similar level to your screen refresh - i.e. your console is churning out ~50fps

No it's not good, it means the developers were lazy and rather than optimizing the game to have a consistent frame-rate they rushed it out instead with the frame-rate all over the place.

Unforgivable on consoles imo.

Aye, Double Agent is terrible, and the Dead Rising demo i have is just unplayable, really put me off the game.

So basically have i sampled the worst or are more games as bad as this?

I have to say I havent noticed any tearing on the dead rising demo at all!

Heh, I knew someone would say that :p Okay, a picture is technically possible, but to really know what we're on about, it is best to see it happen 'live' I think.
