Vertigo

Had this for the last two weeks with some days being really nasty (just looking down at my desk and the world would spin), doc seemed to think it is viral and should pass.

Its this ^^^^

I got it the end of November and was in hospital for 7 days, could not walk for about 4 days I did not vomit but it came out the other end. Having to wear a nappy at 46 and getting pushed around in a wheel chair was a bit strange.

Had every scan they could give me, blood tests everyday, nothing came back as a problem. Because I was in bed for 4 days them bloody injections they give in your stomach so you don't get blood clots are brutal.

Good luck OP and get plenty of rest, eat well and try to walk around a bit. It does pass but takes awhile.

Edit : found it labyrinthitis just google it.

Ok. So up and about now. Yesterday was better than today. Felt more unbalanced today, although ive been a bit more active. Went to b&q with my dad for paint etc for the hallway I was meant to do on Monday. i've got better through out the day.

Not tried to drive yet. Not rushing this, and will likely arrange for some colleagues to ferry me to and from work next week.

I haven't bothered with the prochlorperazine since yesterday morning. Seems better to let my body experience it and adjust.

Was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis

Had this once for a few weeks, would wake up in the night and literally would panic to grab onto *anything* because it felt like I was falling, and even when I was bracing myself against the wall and the bedpost, it would feel like I was spinning and falling to the point of wanting to throw up.

Horrible horrible feeling.

That was pretty much my first day :-(

Screw work as you will be a liability, take 2 to 3 weeks off at least. Its brutal and comes and goes without warning. If you unbalanced don't work end of, am ok when I was sitting down but as soon as I stood up bloody hell screw that.

So I'm almost recovered..I think.

I seem to have heavy aching ears and a bit of mild tinnitus. I get T every now and again, but had this for a few days, and it's worse than usual.

Hopefully it's just part of the recovery process. Aching ears makes me think it is all viral.

I had it for around 3 months in my late teens, I got quite adept at walking with it. Just pointed myself in the direction I wanted to head in and bounced of every wall until I got there. First doctor I saw suggested Labyrinthitis or vertigo caused by a sinus infection and sent me off with some antibiotics and told me to come back in a week. Sure enough I started to notice a bit of difference but it hadn't quite cleared so I went back to see what he'd suggest.
Unfortunately I ended up seeing a different doctor who decided due to my family's medical history it could be something more serious.
The buggers passed me around, couldn't agree on a diagnosis and eventually had me sent in for a CT scan looking for any signs of a brain tumor, turned out I had a massive sinus infection after all.:D

I ended up having to redo my first year HND as I wasn't able to attend my course, and I was put on long term sick from work. I would have spent the time feeling sorry for myself but I was more worried about my mom, who thought she was going to loose me the same way my dad went.

Still prone to it now if I get bunged up. Did get sent off to see an ENT specialist but he wasn't particularly helpful told me sinus infections don't affect your inner ear, thus it must be something else .

It's not the most pleasant of experiences. Glad you're feeling better.

Not according to him they aren't, did question him on why it would be an ENT department if none of them where linked. My mom was looking at taking me private after that conversation, but that changed quickly when we found out he was also the private specialist for Cornwall.

Had this twice before horrible feeling, get well soon

A mate had an occasion of dizziness last week, and I said " have you vertigo " and he said " no, I live round the corner ".

This is the same mate who bought an aardvark without really researching whether it was dangerous to keep as a pet, he
was happy to be told by an expert that " aardvark never killed anyone ".

I gotta million of these.

I had my phase return back to work yesterday for 4 hours and it was different. I had to focus on a certain point when walking and then find another etc. I got through it and I am a little happier for it. Still strange not being in charge of your own body lol.

Glad you're pushing through.

I didn't drive for almost 2 weeks, well once to the corner shop.

I'm back at work but it is so tiring. Had an all-day workshop and it was really tough. Lots of moving around to talk / listen to people.

Went for lunch and the belt where you put your tray when finished started to move and I almost vomitted. Really exposed that I'm far from recovered.

Around my house I'm fine, in my office I'm fine, but too much movement and it makes we tired and nausea comes on. Apex makes me sick as well.

I am defo getting better, but it's taking its time.

Just hope it really was viral and it won't come back!

Ringing in ears is pretty annoying. I can live with it as is, I've always had a little tinnitus, but hoping as the infection goes and my stress levels reduce so will the ringing.

This has definitely been a shock to me. Amazing how fragile we can be. People at work have been really helpful. A colleague has constantly been looking out for me when I look a bit off. Some people have no idea what vertigo is and just think it's another term for feeling dizzy. I take my time to stress to them it's **** horrendous.

I am trying, just off to work now, for some reason they thought doing a 10pm-3am s, phase return shift was a good idea lol. I don't.

This sounds very similar to what I had some 15-20 years ago, but it was diagnosed as an inner ear infection, which apparently can also be called labyrinthitis, but I didn’t have the nausea and vomiting.
I came to the end of a side road, intending to make a short left, then right, into the side road almost opposite.
I glanced to the right, assessed that there was nothing too near heading toward me, then turned my head slightly to the left, to see what, if anything, was coming from that direction, and although my head naturally stopped, it felt as if my eyes had carried on swivelling to the left, and were carrying on toward the back of my head!
I counteracted that by switching my eyes back to the right, and they gave me the same feeling.
I took an outrageous liberty, and somehow steered my taxi home, almost going base over apex when I got out to open the garage door.
I bounced off the walls in the passage from the street door, went upstairs on my hands and knees to the living room and kitchen, fixed a cup off black coffee, then hands and knees again to the second floor and bed.
Next day I phoned the GP, he diagnosed it as an inner ear infection, wrote a scrip for meds, which my wife collected and got filled at a pharmacy.
Within three days I was able to get up without reaching for the wall, in case I fell over, but I didn’t drive for another couple of days.
Mine was only mild going by the OPs case, but I wouldn’t want it again.

After being completely clear of this for the last two weeks it kicked in again yesterday, no slow onset but as soon I woke up. I even got referred to A&E as it was re-occurring (they wanted to confirm it wasn't anything more serious), seems it is just these loose crystals/particles in the ear which can happen for no reason at all.

Will not be happy if this is going to be an ongoing thing. :(

I've had it three times over the last 15-20 years, the most recently earlier this year. The first two times were due to ear infections which I was given antibiotics but the most recent time there was no sign of any infection so was only given Serc16 which worked well at masking the symptoms but only for around 3 or so hours at a time.

I did find this exercise on youtube (
) which seemed to help, I was still off work over a week and even after that I still felt a bit disconnected for about another week.

I have been given gaze stability exercises and they have really helped. You have to do them 3 times a day and keep at it.

I might give that a go as I was told to do them ages ago after suffering a similar issue. I still have a bit of trouble if I'm walking past supermarket aisles looking back and forth for my wife.
