Very tempted to switch to PS3

Hi everyone sorry to do another switching thread but I am very tempted to switch to a PS3 from my 360. I currently have a Xbox 360 Premium (non HDMI) with two controllers the official VGA cable and the following games:

Call of Duty 4
The Orange Box
Mass Effect
GTA IV
Assassins Creed
Halo 3
Skate
Forza 2
Oblivion
Burnout Revenge

So first question is would I be able to trade all this lot in for the PS3 and some games? I understand that I would not be able to get as many games back as I have now but I only play a few of them. How many do you think I could get if any? Also would I get an extra controller?

My reasons for switching are:
1. Noise my 360 is loud even when just watching streamed movies and it really ticks me off.
2. Blue Ray, now the war is won I want to be able to buy HD movies but buying a separate Blue Ray for the joy is out of my budget.
3. Not paying to play online. I have only ever had a 3 month subcription to Xbox Live (which my girlfriend kindly bought me :)) and I really don't want to pay £40 for a years gaming when I don't play enough to warrant 40 quid, just want to dip in and out when I please for free.

Things I would miss:
1. The controller, I don't want to start a war here but I prefer the 360's controller, its more comfortable in my hands.
2. Fable 2, been looking forward to this game for a while but it seems like its the only exclusive title I want to play.
3. The few Xbox Live friends I have. I only ever play with a few people and none at the moment as I don't want to pay for live.

Sorry this has turned into quite a large thread! Anyway your opinions would be really appreciated.

Just done it

Sold my 360 and four games for £180

Sold other 12 games for approx £200 on ebay

PS3 and 5 games, 2 pads cost me £280 off ebay.

really enjoying GT5P at moment, not missing it yet

Not sure. If you sold in soething like the Members Market, then yes. If you trade them in then no, I don't think so. I could be wrong though.

I traded in my Wii and 9 games as well as severeal peripherals last year and got £195. That was during the Great Wii Shortage of 2007

You would be better selling them on the MM or an auction site, trade ins would get you less money but is easier if you can't be bothered to go through the hassle of selling it. For comparison I sold the following in Feburary for £280:

  • Xbox 360 Premium (20GB Drive)
  • Official VGA Cable
  • 2x Controllers
  • 2x Play & Charge Kits
  • Gears of War
  • Crackdown
  • PGR 3
  • Fusion Frenzy 2
  • XBLA Games

I have both and my PS3 is on long term loan to my friend. I loaned it him, so he could play MGS4 now I just can't be bothered going round to pick it up, I just don't miss it at all.

Unless you like watching, I only watch movies once there's not more point having a PS3 over a 360.

Its funny that you should say the 360 is loud steaming movies? Mine is almost silent, its only the DVD drive that is loud. I also found the 360 better as a media center as it would play back HD wmv files back in 5.1 sound.

I would like to buy a PS3, but there's a few things stopping me.

- Confusion over backwards compatability. There's no way I'm buying something that will play PS1 games but not PS2, sounds like some kind of frankenstation.

- I don't like the design. I hate curves on electronic items, it makes them look tacky and also makes them harder to position with the rest of your electronic items.

- I'd have to buy a HDTV to get the full experience of gaming on it, or find a way to display the PS3s output as 16:9 windowed on a 16:10 monitor.

IMO Live is the best thing currently the 360 has to offer, so if you don't use it much like I didn't then it does question whether it's the best console for YOU...

Like others I opted for the PS3 for that reason, the noise, and the fact that I love movies so having BR player was a big positive, but before you make your decision bear in mind that firstly the BR movies aren't that cheap so you have to be willing to spend at £10-£20 per film unless you plan to rent them.

Also another big plus going for the 360 is the fact that older games can be purchased a lot cheaper than PS3 games, and due to the amount of titles you can quite easily pick up 3-4 games for the same price as maybe 2 PS3 games. So if you like to buy cheap older games the 360 has more to offer.

As for trade in I would say your probabley looking at £250-280 max for that lot? But as others said MM/e-bay would give you a better return.

P.S. If you get a PS3 make sure you get the Dualshock 3 controller as the six-axis one is utter garbage.

I think I am just one of the unlucky ones, my 360 has a loud fan, also the PSU fan is audible. With the DVD spinning its almost too loud to play games. I think I am over sensitive to the noise though.

I would describe myself as a casual gamer which means movie playback is important. I do tend to watch most of my movies more than once.

I am also a person that gets bored with games quite quick so many of my games just sit on the shelf after a month or so.

On the noise 'issue' of the 360, if you actually play your games with the sound on and/or your head attached to the console it shouldn't be an problem.

lies. Watching dvds on it is stupid, playing games with medium sound or at night is stupid too.

some people like silence, my pc is virtually silent, and the ps3 is quieter. My old 360 was like a hoover

I think thats a gross overstatement.

And no its not stupid, I watch DVD's quite happily on mine, do you know why?

1.) Films have volume
2.) I'm not a fussy ****
