Vettel to Ferrari in 2014?

Perhaps they will keep Massa for another year, with Vettel arriving in 2014?

Alonso vs Vettel, in the same car is mouth-watering.

The fireworks. The handbags and dawn. The name-calling. The accusations. The drama.

If Vettel joins Alonso, expect all of the above in 2014.

Vettel will never play second fiddle to Alonso, end of. Vettel will (if ever) only go there once Alonso has departed.

I disagree with the statement in the original post - 'Fernando Alonso will see out his career driving a red car, of this we are certain.' IMO Ferrari will only keep Alonso as long as he is producing the goods.

Again I have to disagree, Vettel has had it all to easy in the last two seasons with a dominant Red Bull car. Up against Alonso in the same car? No chance, especially if it's a poor car...

No, I am saying if Ferrari thought Alonso and Vettel would be bitchy with each other then they would not sign Vettel as its not productive to have a scenario of team mates at war with each other.

I'd love to see Vettel join in 2014 and then watch Alonso beat him or Ferrari not produce a dominant car..

cue fireworks, tantrums and tiaras

I can't see any problem really. Racers want to prove themselves against the best in the world. We all know why things got out of hand at McLaren.

Vettel isn't a rookie, he'll respect the team, and Alonso enough for it to be a fair fight.

That being said. Alonso's aim is to win 3 WDC if he wins this year, he might not necessarily take it easy, but might relax and just enjoy his driving.

I think Alonso is a fantastic driver, but I do not like him.
He probably would beat Vettel, but the tantrums and tiaras seem to come from Alonso more than other drivers.

Which as a fan of the sport would be interesting to see :).

I am starting to think that Ferrari don't really know what they want.

They have let both Hamilton and Perez slip through their fingers, both young drivers with many years ahead. The only serious offers we know about was Webber, a guy at the tail end of his career. There's zero news about them bringing any of their young guys not in F1 into the team. So what do they want?

Ferrari did not want Lewis or Perez so it's not letting them slip through there fingers, Lewis management had talks with Ferrari as reported by Whitmarsh. Webber's offer was only ever spoken about by his side when he was looking for a new Red Bull deal a normal tactic to do.

Italian media is normally pretty correct when it comes to Ferrari, and that is saying Ferrari want Kubica for 2014 if possible.

To run a one car team and hire the best driver with an also ran. They don't care about young drivers or potential. They hire the finished article. When it's time to replace alonso they will with whoever is the current best driver on the grid.

They can let mclaren have Perez and if he turns out to be 50x the driver senna was they will just take him in 3 years or less. Just as they could take vettel if they wish.

I would have loved them to give ms one more year and send massa off to caterham but with the options they might as well keep massa until vettel becomes available.

Kubica said he would have been with Ferrari if he never had his accident, so I think the also ran days are over and Ferrari realise this with the grid being so close they need 2 good drivers if they are to win titles. The days of having a car 1 second quicker that let's the also ran score big points are long gone.

Ferrari are clearly waiting on something in 2014, be it Kubica or Vettel.

Kubica was decent enough but I don't think he would have given Alonso a run for his money anymore than Button would. If they are looking at Kubica still it's because they want an also ran. I think he was just an option in case Alonso didn't work out.

He had his chance he blew it. He's too much of a risk now.

I guess we shall see if Vettel goes there and if they are just looking for padding until then.

Not sure you can write of Kubica so easily though :)

Probably because I never rated him so highly in the first place. I see him as a better than usual 2nd driver and no more.

Hell he raced for 3 full seasons with Heidfeld and got beaten 2 times out of 3? He had flashes of brilliance and speed but not enough for me to consider him a no1 at any team other than a williams or Force india.

He beat Petrov convincingly.

Ferrari will have far more data than me to make their decision but I'm really not convinced they saw him as an equal number 1, just another very good driver stuck in a midfield team that they could promise the world too and keep saying next year is your chance :D

If by "blew it" you mean "had his right hand almost severed at the wrist".

Kubica is showing in rally driving that he's still got the stones to win. Raikkonen did just the same, so I imagine Ferrari would be really glad to have an "also-ran" who could finish third in the championship even if he couldn't win a race.

Strange cause I was reading the Kubica thread the other day and pretty sure you stated he was a great talent.

But if you don't rate him then that's fine as everyone has their own feelings :)

No he blew it when he went rallying when he should have been more focused on what his actual motor racing goals were. The same way some football clubs don't allow their players to ride motorbikes etc.

Rallying is far more dangerous than F1, he took a risk with his career and he lost. That's where he blew it.

Of course he had a great talent, so does Button and Webber. In fact they probably showed it more often. Not that I'd hire them as a Ferrari equal either. :)

I feel sorry for him but it's a reminder for everyone else out there.
