VGA cables for 360

On both my Dell 2007 wide, and my philips 20" wide, at 1366x768 I get virtually no jagies,

This is true of the lost planet demo, as well as oblivion and even perfect dark. Graw demo is the same.

I am using the offical MS VGA cable.

I think mainly the jaggies were most visible in PGR3 but I've heard thats known for it and the motion blurring used my TV's helps to hide that.

On my other games, the jaggies are less noticeable but still there.

Asides from Halo 2 (understandably..) not that i've noticed. I've since got Tomb Raider: Legends and even my mum commented how good that looked :D

So I fired it up again and took a closer look and didn't notice any obvious jaggies. Sitting about a metre away it looked very smooth, even looking at things through the binoculars.

Oh from a meter away the jaggies are not so noticeable but being mainly a PC gamer who is used to sitting about half a meter away from the screen, thats when they become clearer.

Thanks for those responses, I've pretty much tried all the resolution and they all give that same jagged edges.

Apparantly connecting via VGA has some issues on some monitors hwere jaggies will be prominent or colours will appeared washed out.

Whereas on others it will look excellent. It may be just this Hanns G monitor, it would be great if someone else with this monitor and a 360 could post whats theres looks like.

For example, in that H thread on that Dell monitor via composite the colours are so vibrant but when that user tried VGA input everything turned rather dull.

If anyone else is using the VGA connector with a TFT monitor, please could you post your experiences and pics if possible to compare. Many thanks all.

Well my MS VGA cable arrived today, and I can confirm that the picture quality on this is far superior then my Joytech one. (1360x768 Widescreen)

Right away upon booting the 360 I noticed the dashboard fonts being miles more clearer/sharper. Not tried any games yet, I'm just checking out some game vids atm.

Edit: Anyone want a joytech vga cable? :p

Hi Kainz, what monitor are you using?

Hehe I sold my old third party cable on ebay, sending it back from whence it came.

Edit: Games look lovely now, its so vibrant and crisp!

Any chance you could take a pic of the screen in game or on the dash so I can compare?

Hope this isn;t too late, but I found a couple of articles which deals with some of the original questions posted in this thread, and also confirms what I said about 1280x1024 being the 'correct' resolution when using a 1680x1050 monitor.

I'm afraid I can't be of further help to you, other than to say double check the setting on the monitor that deals with aspect ratios e.g my Eizo S2110W has a 'Screen Size' setting that you can switch manually between 'Fullscreen', 'Enlarged', and 'Normal'.

Does anyone know what theme is used by the user in the second link?

Hmm pants. I sold the joytech cable to a mate of mine who himself wanted to compare it to his ms vga one lol

Not a comparison shot of the joytech VGA cable in use but just an ingame shot of your 360 running on your monitor.

Well here are my efforts for comparison:

dash#1

dash#2

pgr3#1

pgr3#2

pgr3#3

All photos were taken with a Sony DSC-P200 7.2mp at highest settings. To view the full res shots (over 2mb in size), remove the word 'copy' from the url.

Thanks hairy, what theme is it your using there?

I think we need someone else with the same monitor as me to try it out.

A new update in this saga, after hooking up the 360 to my old 17" CRT, running 1280x1024, there are noticeably fewer jaggies and the colour is excellent in comparison to the TFT.
