Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

I filled it with plasto sanded it a bit and layed down a filler primer on that section and some plasticoat. Seems really decent and should hold up.. I took to it with my nails and a set of keys.. it's on there good... I did debate trying to match the grey but given it would look just bad if I got it wrong I thought black looked the obvious choice.

I actually own it now as i traded it for a fully working not damaged machine so and am only into it a relatively small amount it owes me about 60 quid.

Tbh it's a shame you can't buy lynx shells but I guess they are a bit niche
You did a great job of it!

Ive not searched the thread, but what are your typical labour charges? You surely must be charging well for your services? Even for Friends and Family?

Depends mostly on here ill look at something for free most of the time :) - Ill give you an idea on some other recent ones though...

A dude sent in a cd32 (you can see it earlier in the thread) - It kinda worked but wouldn't display - I did a complete restoration on it and 2 pads... full recap complete board overhaul, drilled out the rotten pads, printed new dpads on a resin printer and restored them, replaces the cables with ones from a megadrive pad and re-did the pinout... That cost the guy nearly £200 in restoration costs...

other repairs like switches etc ill basically beat pretty much any price. It really depends on what it is, how much time I need to put in to it, that sort of thing....

@Martini1991 - I think it's time to send you your laptop back mate.. I've failed on it like crazy. Had another go today and I just can't find what's wrong with it. I have a small suspicion it's cpu but I can't be sure.

Played any games on it? A mate was really proud of the form factor of the one he picked up off eBay then bad mouthed my steam deck so I didn’t have an objective go on the thing

Hi mate, thanks a lot for looking at this and spending the time on it.

Do what's easier for you, either send it back or chuck.

I shall send it back to you buddy! I'm a bit gutted on this one as I was sure we could get her up and running but apparently it just doesn't want to play :( - Swing me your addy and ill get it in the post... At least you can sell on things like the charger, ram, hdd etc to tray and get some cash back!

  reflected my initial impression of the thing, can't understand full fat windows on tiny screens!

100% tell your mate he is wrong... sure the form factor is nice but the overall package is a country mile behind the deck. Deck has it beaten in pretty much every area that matters.

I have no idea.... I never intended on keeping it... Like I never intended on keeping the Z1 Extreme Ally... I just wanted to have a play with them! I knew within a few days that this just wasnt for me... The number of omissions from the software for simple stuff like analogue calibration and other key things is absurd. The fact the ayaneo software prompts for firmware updates in software then fails every time and the only way to do it is some obscure boot process and manually is again not good enough. In the couple of weeks I have had it these things absolutely scream unfinished product.

On top of that you get driver errors on a stock windows install unless you go fiddle with a load of windows security settings... I mean the simple fact is it works and a few hours of fiddling you can absolutely get it singing in windows but the amount of rough edges is imo too many.

Haha! he's got form for being wrong about these sort of things so I'll reaffirm the point and wave the glory that is the deck/steam os at him

Great work as always Vince!!

I wish i knew the part number of the original regulator / buck... would make the repair a lot cleaner. I have had a proper hunt and cant find anything in that package type and the chip isn't labeled with anything useful..

not sure anyone cant help but have a G29, i took cover off to take of those dam clamps, but now its calibrating off centre, like 90 degree off center, the light is blinking on top, windows is telling me its pulling like diagonally right, windows cant calibrate as saying theres a fault, is it a throw in bin job as obviously damaged something on opening
