Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

The deck appears to have a corrupted bios.. I've fixed this before on another deck so will do that first and the one x is already fixed.. one of the series consoles only needs a hdmi which is nice

Sickens me this. Some genuinely horrible human beings out there…

We shall see what happens. I'm fairly easy on it and don't let it stress me out. I have all the individual boards and SSD serial number recorded as well as the power supply serial number. I also have about an hour footage of the repair on that one. I record everything on all the series consoles I fix because of all the married parts so I will know if anything isn't as it was when I sent it... Besides, there is really not much you can do. I wont really lose out even if they do swap it as long as a series X comes back... I dont pay as much for my consoles as I would if buying them on ebay or whatever because I buy as many as I do and weekly with the same guy. I tend to get decent deals which you wouldn't get on the likes of ebay and that often means I can go a bit lower or do better deals on restored systems.

To give an example I paid like 90 for that slim disc edition PS5 - I mean it's broken so imo its not even worth that but that's still a cracking deal on that machine.

It’s more the time it costs you, and the hassle and inconvenience too. I like how you’ve prepared for it though - should hopefully make any challenge easier, assuming that’s what you’ll do with eBay.

Just a shame that what were once good selling platforms have been somewhat ruined by those whose only interest seems to be to scam folk. It’s not just eBay either, Marketplace is another minefield.

Good luck getting this all resolved. Seems like you’ve got a very relaxed attitude to it, which should save you a lot of stress down the line.

Also looks like you’re getting some great deals, which is no doubt helping to offset any issues selling on. That was a remarkable price for the PS5!

Hi Vince, just got an absolutely amazing condition DS in original box with all liners, put sleeve etc, really happy with it. But ... Whomever owned it obviously smoked, do you know how best to remove the smell from a console? I imagine you've had a few on your bench

my trick.... there are a few household cleaners I use... one is method bathroom and also method window cleaner... they have a really minty smell that seems to seep into the plastics... so generally everything gets some of that... often if its really bad ill strip it down and properly clean the board then give the shell a bath but more often than not just some method stuff on a cloth tends to do a decent enough job.. Warning though first I put on some method stuff and sort of let it sit for 5 mins and that leaves a residue and can be a tiny bit sticky... so after a damp cloth and another clean with just a bit of water does the trick.

So apparently Sony wont honor the year warranty on the ps5 slim (released nov 2023) because their system says this was sent to the retailer in August 2023 and therefore they warranty it 1 year from the day its shipped to the retailer. Classic! What that means is you dont really have a 1 year manufacturer warranty, you have a 1 year minus however long the retailer has been sitting on it warranty! Thanks Sony. Looks like we must open it ourselves.

Thanks, I'll take a look at those at the weekend

Not shocked, had similar with my og ps4, retailer sorted me out, Sony said my disc drive broke as I did not use it enough and wanted some crazy sum.

Happy ps5 slim opening! (forgot about this thread glad I remembered :) )

Oouf - Sent my AyaNeo Air Pro ryzen 7000 series to Aya for repair... They have promised me a full breakdown of what's up with it so I fronted the $250 shipping back to China via fedex with an open "There may well be more charges". Im in so deep on this bad boy I may as well just lube up at this point.

Nice fix, well done for not getting caught out by the little cap (not that I expected any less, but see so many knock that off as they are not expecting it)
I am always amazed at how many of these hdmis get pushed back/damaged. Super common though.

Im pretty sure the series consoles have a similar cheeky little cap... Dunno how people manage to knock em, they are close but not that close! I added a bit of reinforcement to the rear of the port (2 solder blobs) which should prevent the new one from ever pushing back.
