Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

There are some resellers that scalp certain items I sell and that makes it difficult for others to buy.
There's a business in Newcastle doing that with any console/notebook that I list.

He adds £20 onto the price and doesn't mention any of the scratches or faults i/e dead pixels or screen yellowing etc, some of his DS Lite's that he describes as professionally refurbished have feedback saying they don't read the cartridges or the shoulder buttons don't work.

From this thread its great to see someone who does things the right way.

Had a look for replacement cases for my phat PS2... very little out there, except old ones to use as a donor. However I did notice the prices of the coloured machines and wow they're a lot more than I expected.

Yea this blue one, pricey!! I did a full resto on the pad, new membrane soldered on a new connector so the membrane is now replaceable and even replaced rubbers where nessesary so that pad is working great now.

This is where we left it last night... Just out at the spa having a nice massage and some lunch and stuff then I'll get some listing cracked out this afternoon.

Yesterday we cleared some 3ds systems, few more switches, psp, more PS2, more ps5, more pads!

Wooo, Dreamcast :D and it doesn't look yellowed.

It's not and it works and I've changed it to a blue led and sorted out the battery backup replacing the old rechargable with a cr2032, pretty common mod on thes. Ready to rock is that Dreamcast.

Just rolled in back home so will list a few items this evening probably or just have a beer and chill and get on it tomorrow, undecided as yet.

Well we have been clearing through a few listings a day for the last few days and things really haven't been sticking about. Listed a One X Project Scorpio Edition along with a hall effect pad a bit earlier and it got scalped with only 4 views one of which was me (within a few mins of listing)... didnt even get a chance.... One of my regular scalpers bless em.

Switch Lites been flying out and overall im limiting daily listing because I dont want to spend all night packaging. 3DS systems flew out the door. This batch of stuff I have noticed some of it has been worked on previously and one of my pet hates is debris between LCD's and digitizers but some of these switches have exactly that. Ive decided to simply drop the price on these ones if they arent too bad rather than spending the time.

Well looks like @Diggsy crazy battery life switch is all sorted. Had some fun with this one! Will probably do a more in depth write up on it at some point... Was fun!

When it came in it was dropping 1% battery every 10 seconds or so which meant about a 10 min battery life and mad battery readings. Ended up being liquid damaged so quite a bit got replaced. In total it looked something like:

port, m92t36 pmic, BQ battery management chip, max17050 fuel gauge (the one with corrosion under it), the cap above the usb input voltage behind the fuse, main cap for vsys and vbat out of bq, crusty cap beside bq, crusty resister beside m92. If it looked like it had seen some corrosion I changed it. Additionally it had broken shell bits internally so I kinda rebuilt the plastics as well, oh and a new pair of all white joycons because they look fire in the lite... Happy days!

Right now its just looping mk8 on some drain and recharge cycles so we can train the new fuel gauge. MK8 is a great game to loop as you just turn on auto steer, turn on auto item and you dont even need to touch the controls to win the first few GP sessions.

Any time my dude. I kinda bombarded you in messages but thats half the fun :) ill grab some of it out and re-post it in here at some point.
I actually really enjoyed the updates. Appealed to my curious, repair rather than replace side!

Look forward to your next update, whatever it is you’re working on…

Nothing overly exciting just fixed up a one s and a elite 1 scuff. I actually removed the scuff programable mod as the controller was going nuts so now it's just en elite 1 with scuff accessories.

Oh and here is some of the other things we fixed over the last week....

What a treasure trove of restored goodies!!

I know you said loads of pics...

Didnt take masses of them but I have some more. Standard full recap and this one needed a new voltage reg as that had blown so I did a full power refresh on it as well :)

I say blown the machine was lighting up but was basically feeding all of the 9v from the dc jack directly to the rest of the system... luckily (like the lynx) it rarely takes the asics with it, they just get properly toasty!

Be rude not to throw in a pic of it all back together and playing some games. Really nice shape Jaguar this. Lovely console and hopefully put in another 30 years for its owner.

And another happy dude...

I still have no idea how this guy found me. I apparently repaired something for somebody he knew so he sent me a message on ebay asking if I would look at his game gear. This is now console number 4.

Great to see a working Jag. I remember when a friend got one on release and he used to bring it over to play AvP, great times. Can't actually remember any other games on it.

Well today has been a day of different sort of repairs. Myself and my brother in law just finished all the structural work (too dark for pics of where it's at now) but should finish up with all new frontage tomorrow..

It's just a case of remove all the rot and put new timbers up, the rot seemed to take out 3 cross beams, the main beam across the front and a few other areas and it all started before we bought the place 10 years ago. Somebody decided to attach some corrugated plastic sheets across the opening between the porch and garage overhang and add a few internal cross beams to support it. Problem is they drilled down into all of the original timber and didn't seal any of it so water just seeped into the frame and it was game over.

I tried to do it a favour a few years back and removed the corrugated crap and internal cross beams but even then it was already too far gone. Then about a month back I started noticing additional sagging so it was time. Bought in some wood and a load of tools and let the challenge begin. Brother in law is a builder to that absolutely helps.

Proper tiring work though.

I bet your neighbour is looking on going "oooooh ****"

To be honest all the ones up the road are sagging and rotting, mine is now easily the straightest of them all. Once I have all the new front on tomorrow it's gonna look amazing. We are close!!

While I'm at it I'm also fixing the root of the problem and sloping the roof towards the edge to stop water pooling where it shouldn't. Put simply the reason it's like it is now is because of a serious oversight back in the 70's

Tempted to add an additional down pipe for extra drainage in the center where water pools. I noticed one probably 6 houses up did this but didn't fix the sag.
