Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Gents... Look!!!

I mean the tracking they provided doesnt work at this point but handy its apparently on the way home.

lol, tracking not working :p

At this point I won't be shocked if the tracking is bs & it goes "missing" in the post. I hope it does it make it to you though and that it actually works :).

It took them a full 3 weeks in testing apparently so it better work  at the end I'll do you a screenshot of my mailbox and the total number of emails exchanged. It's a lot. I told them my address no less than 6 times during this ordeal after they requested it filling out the same information repeatedly so I'm fairly sure they know where I live now. They did it via FedEx on the way out there. It looks like they have sent it back via some obscure courier I've never heard of.

In fact let me show you:

Aya to me:

Me to Aya

I think I have lost some emails i sent at the beginning but they are in the email strings. I also got my number of months wrong, its been 159 days so far or 5 months and 8 days. During that time about 70 or so emails have been exchanged

Ok so that tracking website is showing a royal mail tracking number. I put it into the royal mail website and its showing a tracked 48 service. Tracked 48 from china? We shall see... I'm not convinced.

Could the device already be somewhere back here in the uk? I mean who knows at this point. Ill give it a week or so and see what happens. It doesnt look overly promising when i paid the 250 or whatever $ it was up front because they demanded fedex service which they told me was for shipping and return shipping.

The device was in beautiful condition when it was sent as well lets see if 1) it ever comes back 2) it is even the same device and is fixed 3) What condition its in after 5 odd months being seemingly passed about.

Hope it actually works out for you after all that hassle. I have RM travelling numbers for items coming from Aliexpress but they are only active once the item is handed over after UK customs. The service used to get it here seems to vary massively, my PS5 dual sense batteries are expected in May (didn't pay attention to that when ordering) but the sticks will be here in the next week, they just cleared customs.

At the risk of putting a downer on the Conso0le finally returning, I've had the phantom tracking numbers before from China. When they know they've f'd up they make it look like everything is fine, right up until you complain (again).

It is possible they used one of the Chinese 24hr couriers, or piggy backed off a FedEx return flight.

In other news, I fixed the Doorbell with a new micro-usb socket (courtesy of cpc-farnell as the owner wanted it back before this weekend as they are going away) and it charges and works as it should. My first 'real' fix for someone else.

Fingers crossed on the Aya - hope you still like it!

Its probably going to have to go but I kinda feel bad selling it as if anything ever goes wrong its 1) going to cost the earth to sort 2) will take a lifetime being sorted.

There isn't really an up side to them. It's not like they are even cheap to offset it.

If it works on the RM site as a Tracked 48 & looks like a RM number, it'll probably be Canaio.

Aliexpress and most of the China tat sellers use them these days.
They basically just ship a container over & re-label once here.

8 of these came... I normally don't grab one S but at 15 each for 500gb and 20 each for the 1tb models it's worth fixing em up. The cleaned up one was the first of the 8..

And yea the shells actually get steam cleaned because of the holes.

Have you thought about selling these as "Moonlight/Apollo-Capable Streaming Boxes"?

I was looking for a reasonably priced, 1440p/120hz mini pc, in order to play games streamed from my pc, on the bedroom or lounge TV. The TV app can do it over WiFi, but the latency is high and it's capped at 60hz.

I installed Apollo on my PC (it's a Sunshine fork with better networking settings & config), then added the Artemis APK (a Moonlight fork specifically for Apollo) to the Xbox-One S.

Now streaming games from my PC, to the bedroom & lounge TVs, at 1440p, 120hz (and can pick 4k/60hz if preferred), as well as my android tablet (2560x1600 @90hz) & phone (2992x1344 @120hz), over 5G mobile, WiFi & ethernet (best).

It wouldn't take much time to set one up, then export the config file (JSON) to copy across to the others...

Not really a repair question, but I'm sure people have done it before. Dualsense I assume soap and water is the best thing to clean the shell? It's fully to bits (front mic is out as well, I didn't forget) but it's quite dirty (heavily used until drift, then sat on shelf because I'm lazy), I figure soap and water is safest, but might be something better. Also the rubber pads, I was going to dunk them in as well, but thought soap might leave a film on the contacts, should I just do seperate with isopropyl or just dunk them in the soapy water with the rest of the shell and button parts.

Also lol at that ayaneo email chain, I really hope you actually get it after all that. What terrible service.

Hard plastics are good for a dunk in warm water with some dish soap, then rinse. Rubber pads should be okay, I would have thought IPA is more likely to make them sticky.

Well I won't say it was easy (desoldering is the devil's work) but I got the sticks in my dual sense replaced with the tmr ones from Aliexpress. It probably took me as long to do as it takes @Vince to repair half a dozen consoles :p.

There is a minute issue with the left stick on full left in testing (only hits 0.97 rather than 1.0) but that could be me or the sticks. Works perfectly in games so I take that as a win.

I did learn two things, first of all my Parkside soldering station has the worst tip design in terms of getting replacements (they also get slightly loose over time in use, screw in).

The second is much more useful in that I had never thought to try my magnifying headset with my distance specs. Gives a useful increase in working distance while still having very good magnification on the 3.5x lenses. I don't have to have everything so close to my face to get clarity now.

Ooft! I just saw you were e-mailing Ayaneo support to resolve something.
Easily one of the most frustrating support experiences I've ever had. Enough to convince me never to buy a handheld from them again. Having see some people tearing their hair out with support on the AM02 mini-PC, I'll maybe not want to buy one of those again either!

Off topic, sorry. Can the APK be installed on Android TV? Can Apollo run in the background and I can use the PC for other stuff?

Random one, have you ever repaired power tool batteries?

I've a 6ah hikoki/hitachi battery that's 2 years old, but one of the cells have randomly died, I feel like I want to repair it, but not sure where to start

I have a TCL C845K (Google TV) - you'll need the Artemis client and "Send File to TV" app, to sideload it.
Failing that, Apollo works with Moonlight, too.
Technically, you could still use the PC whilst it's being streamed to the TV, but Apollo doesn't run in the background; whatever you're doing on the PC would be streamed to the client's screen, too.

My two Dualsense batteries turned up from Aliexpress today, much to my surprise. Less than two weeks from order but the ETA was May. That's giving a fair safety margin on delivery.

Popped them both in and gave the controllers a good clean at the same time. I am not expecting them to actually be 4000mah for the price less, than £12 for both, but so long as they give at least the original performance anything longer is a bonus.
