I've just had 50mb broadband installed and the engineer has just spoken to me to say that with the Netgear Dongle installed i will only receive 20mb download speeds. I currently have this dongle: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-134-NG&groupid=46&catid=1452&subcat=1470

He said the D-Link adapter doesn't have Win7 x64 drivers available yet so can't use it but if i use the cable it'll be ok.

Question which i never asked him (i'm at work) is why wont the Netgear work? i thought it would be ok paired with the D-Link router.

I have had 50mb installed this week and received the D-Link Router and USB dongle. I have Win 7 x64 on both my machines, and have connected the USB dongle to the PC in my front room.

Win 7 x64 just auto detected and installed the drivers for me, didn't even need the supplied CD. It works very well with download speeds of 30mb+/sec. :D

Constantly get over 47mb /sec with direct ethernet connetion from the router.

Edit - Sorry just re-read your post and realised you have received the netgear dongle and not the D-Link one. Have you tried to see if win7 auto installs drivers for you?

i purchased the netgear one before receiving Virgin. i also have the D-link one too which it detected but having trouble connecting via wireless

Ummm for me it just auto detected and installed the relevant driver. I then clicked on the wireless icon that appeared in the bottom right corner (looks like a small bar chart) and before it allowed me to connect i had to input the wireless security key i had set for the router.

After that it worked flawlessly. What is the distance between the router and USB dongle? For me Router and USB dongle are about 30 feet apart and i get anything from 50% to 70% signal strength from day to day.

it's not having it. so it's connected through ethernet cable which isn't a problem.

Not sure why it wont connect but i'll just keep checking drivers on D-Link website.

But loving the super fast broadband

I hope the drivers work ;) Come back and let us all know.

they don't appear too. :(

Previously i'd installed the vista drivers off the D-Link website and when it asks me to pair the device using the sync button it lit up and paired but then within the change adapter settings it has the DWA 140 as being disabled. i try to enable it but it wont?!

but with these beta's it wont even pair up. the timer runs out

I would try to to first uninstall the vista drivers and the win 7 drivers then reboot
install those win 7 drivers and if it asks you to plug it in
then plug your dongle in the the usb port.

Are you pluging the dongle into the mother boards USB or at the front of the case?
