Virgin 50mp. Minimum Speed

cheers for this rainmaker.

yeah wasn't going to swap out Kaspersky but that has given me a better understanding of why it happens.

going to get virgin back out again though to sort my upstream power levels which should hopefully bring my speeds back to 50mbps as last night it was testing at 30>35mbps

principle Tech has just left and has adjusted the power levels.

tjhis is what i get on the 50mb speed test their engineers use

File size transferred : 500.0 MB (524288000 bytes)
Total time taken : 83.3 seconds (83304 milliseconds)
Throughput : 6293.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]
= 6.29 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
= 50344.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
= 50.34 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

also this was with Kaspersky dissabled as with it enabled it reduces down to 44mbps.

Speedtest.net is reporting downloads of 34mb but i'm starting to not believe it as files have downloaded at 6mbps +

No. MSE is terrible at detection and removal. I've had it miss several very well known, "old" (i.e. not 0day) trojans, and MS just said tough - I should have paid for their enterprise version if I wanted decent protection. lolmicrosoft

I never found Kaspersky 2010 to interfere with 50 meg speeds at all, once I'd told it to (1) concede resources to other applications and (2) not scan NNTP traffic directly. However, if you really want to switch, Avira Free Edition and Avast Free Edition are both much better than MSE at detection and removal, and very light on resources indeed. :)
