Virgin are now going to use application throttling!!.

Hey,

I've been in love with my Nottingham 4MB VM connection until the last few months - very slow speeds at peak times, and I have been hit by STM on a few occasions which is just disgusting.

I'm thinking of migrating away to ADSL, but this is what happened last time I tried that! Ultimately culminated in line death, which is why I'm reluctant to go back...

Looking here my options aren't that great... which ISP would be best to go with if the VM woes continue?

Cheers,

Suman

Port/application throttling is already being used in langley (ubr05) as a test basis.

Any idea if this is being used in the Notts area?

I upgraded from 2mb to 10mb at the weekend but I keep losing all speed every couple of minutes.

Using newsleecher my download peaks at about 700kb/s for about 2 mins then drops to 0kb/s for about 30 or so seconds and then peaks again at 700 kb/s and so on.

When I reach my cap I can download at 297kb/s as long as I like with no drop outs

cant say ive ever had many problems with blueyonder/virgin, ive been with them since the 512k days.
maybe im lucky but its very rare i cant download at atleast 2mb/s.

STM is total BS though and the service is gradually getting worse, phone support is really bad but the technical support on the newsgroups is probably the best support out of any isp in the world!

pretty much just have to post modem signal levels, modem logs, a tracert and your garunteed a tech visit if they see anything wrong.
they will also check the UBRS your on to see if theres any utilisation issues aswell something the phone support people in india dont seem able to do

non of the bs you get on the phone where they make you do all kinds of retarded things

Which newsgroup do you use?

Here is a speedgraph from Newsleecher showing 15 mins of downloading:(
