Hey guys,

I just got virgin 60mbs broadband installed last friday.

Right now im getting maybe 18-20. They did tell us it would take a while to get a stable line.

Does anyone know how long this might take, i may be being impatient but i just wanted a rough estimate.

Any ideas?

Did you get the new superhub?? I had to order via the virgin site a new superhub as the old netgear one I have is for 20mb only.

Won't be here until 8th May and typically now our wifi on the router has broken, 2 weeks without wifi, lucky it still works off my homeplugs.

I have the newest everything. Never had fibre optic in the house, so we got new wires and the newest superhub. So i presume it can handle 60.

And one to two weeks should be ok i suppose.

Is it a slow and steady rise or will just jump ahead to a much higher speed?

just done a wired speed test, went down to 12mbs. not sure whats up there then. Im gonna give virgin a ring see if anythings odd their end.

just done one, this is it. still not 60 though...

my ranges from 30 to 62 depending on the time of day to be honest. Tryed it just now and it was about 42 but I have seens it slower and also faster. It will speed up the later it gets i would imagine.

thats fine i suppose, but it went down to 12mb, surely thats not healthy even at peak times.

this is my max traffic... 66000000 bps. im guessing thats 60mbs then?

spoke to virgin help line thing. I changed some settings on my router and he reset it, so hopefully it will speed up within 24 hrs.

Im not at the moment, because i seemed to get higher results wireless compared with wired, (somehow?!?)

I was only getting 12mbs wired while i was getting 31mb wireless.

When you connect by wire, does your Ethernet connect at 1Gbps or 100Mbps?

Don't understand how you get lower speeds when wired...

neither do i, its always worked fine wired before. unless its just very good at fluctuating. just ran a wireless speed test then and got 3mbs. i have no idea whats going on...

Ive tried large downloads. Got Mass Effect off steam the other day. i have at most 3.1 MB/s so not bad, but still quite far off 60mb/s.

In the modem's settings pages/information pages, what does it say for the config file?

im not too sure where to find it. on the connection start up tab, it says OK next to it, but im not too sure of the version.

vmspeed good place to test speeds.
when vm switch u line, it should work straight away after you reboot modem.
the **** that vm staff pass along is becoming a joke.
Ended up buying new router at weekend, after 3 weeks with hub, wired & wireless. was droping 4-5 times a day. added asus router, went modem mode. no dropouts in last few days, great speed on both wireless & wired. for me-cost ££ , but beats banging head of wall for weeks on end to get themn to fix there problems.

I do have a spare Belkin router that worked for my old Talk Talk (don't laugh) Modem, only problem was that it connected to my win 7 comp upstairs but not my vaio laptop so i had to remove it.

My only other concern was that since i have tried wired speed tests and its still slow then i surely don't need another wireless router since it mustn't be the wireless connection causing the problem.

Whenever you are not getting the speed you are paying for ring up. You may on a UBR that is way oversubscribed.

Also i did ring them up and speak to a help department, they changed some settings on my router and reset the line. They told me to wait 24 hours and it will be back to normal.

This was the same time yesterday really. Its been over 24hrs and im still not getting over 30mbs. I think he was just doing what most technicians do and just give the default advice, he reported no problems with the line itself. Any other ideas?

Just done a speed test with modem mode on, so no wireless. And got 6.96mbps.

Im on the phone to virgin again...
