Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'm getting sick and tired of the service recently, many evenings I can't even get any internet. Constant drop outs and the router just flashing the green arrow all the time.

I'm now on my phone yet again as its dropped out AGAIN! In the past couple months the Internet service from VM has been utter ****.

I've had the same thing twice in 2 months.
NSR fault, it means there is a lot of noise on the line that is disrupting the signal. They took about 10 days to fix the problem. I suspected that the first fix may have been a quick bodge job.

Other than that Im getting speeds of up to 147mb down stream and 11 to 12mb up stream. I can't complain too much.

The only advice is call during uk office hours and speak to a UK technical person who knows the back end of the product. Their Indian call centres are a waste of my subscription fee as they follow a script and do not think the problem through. That side of their service is totally useless.

£30 a month, 100mbps package. Constantly like this, net barely works most days, laggy games, slow as **** downloads...

Everytime I ring them, they'll do nothing about it, might chuck me a tenner off my monthly bill but will do absolutely nothing to help. Emailed the CEO and he apparently would put me through to their engineers... Nothing, just another tenner off my monthly bill...

Sure, when you're giving me 5% of my promised speeds, just reduce the monthly fee by 33%

****ing criminal, somebody really should take them to court, if only I had the funds... Absolutely criminal how they will not do a single thing to try and fix something like this.

If you're thinking of joining VM, avoid them. Though I can't really recommend any companies to join as every single ISP, in and outside of the UK are complete garbage from what I've heard. Maybe one day there will be a good ISP...

I've been having problems with them the past month or so, everything is find until normally 7PM and then it all just falls apart until 1/2am. I'm only on the bottom package as while I'm at my parents I'm just using it for gaming, but in the evenings this past month online gaming has been impossible.

Can't wait to move out and move over to a different provider tbh.

Bit OTT, we have been with virgin for 9 years and never had a problem.

must have been a mistake or some kind of network problem. I noticed Imgur stopped working at midnight, but now it's back again. I did at one point get a database syntax error, so I think it was more likely an error at the server end rather than anything VM was doing.

This, I think, is about the fairest way of saying it.

If you live in an area where utilisation has been climbing, you can expect a pretty poor connection speed eventually. The trigger for the upgrade work seems to be set to a pretty extreme level.

If your area never gets to this level of utilisation, the service will be pretty much faultless. Once it does, expect it to take forever to get sorted and in the meantime they will do next to nothing to appease you and will completely take the **** with speeds provided vs what you are paying for.

It's a shame they can't get to sorting out congested areas a bit sooner as there would be less of these horror stories and they'd have a generally pretty good rep. That doesn't seem to be profitable though.

Luckily it seems I've joined Virgin in my area some time after the trigger has been reached as my connections been decent since install (but there's lots of old forum threads about my area being crap). So long as it's ok for the next couple of years, BT will have got G.Fast rolled out and I can jump back to that :)

G.fast will basically be fiber to the building, in BT's case that will also mean "to the pole". My local pole is about 2 metres away so I'll eventually be good for up to 1Gb :D
