thats why it's very good. they've upgraded the hardware in your area...

tbh all people connections will improve to like yours once they've upgraded the hardware in each area

No issues before upgrade, no issues after.

I just live in a good area for VM, I've had near flawless service for the past 9 years I've been with them.

Always get max speed and can always count on those great pings to gaming servers.

I'm just lucky. :)

i didn't mean u had issues before.

I know you didn't. :)

but VM are upgrading the hardware in each area

You are correct, I heard somewhere these hardware upgrades only happen after the upstream increases. If this is true i've yet to receive the hardware upgrade. This goes hand in hand with people getting slow speeds before the speed doubling, and getting the same speed after due to UBR bandwidth saturation.. but we'll have to see.

I'm getting a engineer coming in tomorrow with the Superhub to upgrade me to 100Mb

I'm currently on the 20Mb package upgraded from 10Mb on the old ntl:250 modem

Do you guys think he will be messing around with the white cables and the splitter or will he just replace the modem and thats it? My line has no issues and always is top notch. I don't know if I have to move my stuff for him as it will be quite a hassle if the cables need to be adjusted and stuff.

I would imagine he will unplug the old modem, check the signal levels are ok and enough for the Superhub plug it in and away you go :)

I had an engineer out when i first went onto 50mb and they done that above, done a self install of a superhub today and that went smoother than the engineers who came out(They seemed to think the power button on the modem was enough to do a full power reset, took a while for them to listen to me about pulling the power lead :P )

Best of luck and hope you enjoy the speed !

--EDIT--

Well it's nearly been 12 hours since installing so decided to check the graph seems a bit higher than usual but i hope that's it just settling in ;)

I have been having a lot of trouble with my connection the past 4weeks or so. Its sometimes really snappy but other times its just pathetic. Started my graph yesterday.

Ok so last week my TV, Phone and net all went down for a day. The next day it seems I have finally been doubled to 100Meg. I'm having nothing but problems with reliability now ! I am actully getting just under 1 meg download and the upload is now showing as 3 meg when it used to be 5meg. It seems to come and go. The first day I managed to download at a nice 12meg a second now I can't even push 3meg a second at the best of times. I wish I had never been upgraded to 100meg, the 50 meg service ran full speed 24/7 and didn't have a capp. Now I have a cap and worse speeds. Has anyone else had problems since there upgrade or is this just me. I've not been touch with Virgin yet assuming it is just teething problems but it's been a week now. Time to start shouting on the phone ?

If everything went down then you either had a local fault (could be anything from equipment in the cab, the headend, or various other faults) OR they were doing upgrades in you local cabinet.

Virgin have teams going round to the cabinets and upgrading the 15 year old tap banks in the cabs with shiney new ones and upgrading various other bits of hardware. In order to do that they have to disconnect everyones cables. It could be just that the cable is sitting funny on the port (Cross threadded) since it has been disturbed.

Give them a buzz and get someone out to check it. Shame you left it so long though :(

EDIT: The cab upgrades are separate to the broadband speed increase. It is a project that started at the beginning of last year and will finish at the end of 2013

Its because of the packet buffers in the modem, yours looks like the old VMNG300 modem which always does those 'mini steps'.

Funnily enough, most VM users ping graphs should look like those low latency gaps in your graph, if only they didn't run the buffers so long on the Superhubs - it will cache up packets and send them in large blocks instead of throwing them out in near real-time, causing the upstream jitter. Its silly because if you compare the older modems running on exactly the same pipe they don't have anywhere near as much jitter.

VM say they are looking into it in the next beta release of the Superhub firmware, but I'd be surprised if they actually got off their arses and fixed it :D

yeah i've got the older VMNG300 modem and DIR615 with DD-WRT firmware, which i'll only swap for a superhub when it leaves my cold dead hands lol :D

I have the option of BT infinity in my area which means that i won't lose out too much.

Does anyone here have issues with Youtube buffering?...especially 720p or 1080p vids?

Takes forever here to load and it still pauses,Very annoying.

I wish they would make a new version of the VMNG300 thats capable of 100mb+,That was a great modem imo.

Youtube buffering has been bad for ages

As far as i can source of the problem forum for vm customers (i frequent it a lot unfortunately lol) they can't or won't fix it

My 100mb service has been throttled from day 1

Had engineers out from day 3

Samo samo

Roll on infinity in my area i say

Came back to vm after over 10yrs with ntl etc, just getting worse for me hehe

Ohh well, glad some are getting what they pay for anyways

Told VM to stuff it on Saturday. I've got more chance of winning the lottery than them sorting out their problems. Sky Fibre Unlimited due to be installed on 29th May and it'll save me £17.50 a month and I'll only loose 10MB.
