Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I've been having terrible service these last 4-5 weeks, has been so bad and no where near the usual standards I'd expect.

These last two weekends I've called up and each time they've given me £20 credit. That's something I suppose, but looking at that email above I wonder how much longer it's going to go on for.

Will give them another month, then will shop around I think.

Looking at moving over to sky now.

looking at my ADSL speeds I can get between 5-11 how would that be for gaming and downloading? thinking on switching now so when sky fibre is out I can just upgrade to that.

Stryda if you think that's bad last night I couldn't use my connection from 6pm (when I get in from work and 10pm when I gave up and went bed!) had a ping between 250 to 6000!

So i've been pretty happy with my net since installation. The odd issue but nothing major. Until a couple of days ago where i couldn't even stream 360p youtube and it's been like that for the whole time so far since and i assumed it was just being throttled randomly.

"We've got a few issues with YouTube at the moment, but we're working on this as we speak! MKa"

Hmm...

Hi Guys,

I've recently been upgraded from 50mb to whatever speed, uncertain of true speed. I am in the B64 area and the line has now got pretty unstable, especially in evening for gaming.

Anyone else had the same issues after upgrade? Anyone in B64 area?

Thanks

looks like im being re cabled soon, seems the older type of cable is no good for the speeds now on offer, getting what the engineer called cat 11 cable?
i have all services and 120mb BB

speed test is fine. 109 down and 9.41 up

only have problems with TV, low signal so cant get all channel in HD

can't knock them either, VM customer service 2nd to none for me, apart from maybe OC :)

My connection has been fine since install at the beginning of December but went to pot yesterday. Got a load of lost packets and latency :/

Put it on the VM forum in the hope an engineer will see rather than me having to deal with customer services!

So far so goof for me, my connection was great until I doubled from 50>100 then I started getting high ping times but no PL.

Just waiting for the 100>120/12 swap which the site says my area is now upgraded and I should be done by E.O January

They've always rang before showing up for me in the past, for installs and engineer visits. Usually only about 10mins before they arrive though.

yesterday I had a engineer out due to this (see below) and couldn't get the SH login page up sometimes. so he changed the SH and put a box on the cable to drop the voltage.. but with the box on im seeing a lot of spikes (see below) so i tried removing it and it seems much better (see after the end red line below) but the power levels are 6.6-7.1 downstream / 40.1 upstream, is this safe?

old SH

new SH

Can anyone tell me if the engineer rings before turning up?

I'm booked for between 1-6pm but I mite not finish work till 1:30 - 2.

Mine didn't. Three engineers in as many weeks and no phone calls.

Phoned CS earlier about my connection problems, seems a SNR problem is the culprit on my area (although others are also having utilisation issues too) and a fix of 19th has been pencilled in. VM have started to go through our forum posts and reply too with an air of knowledge so fingers crossed Lancing could be sorted soon.

well virgin engineer didnt turn up again. no phone call so i rang them at 6. apparently they emailed me which i didnt get.

the green box that connects us isnt big enough to take any more connections so they have to upgrade it.

they didnt know when that would happen but will kindly phone me when it does or someone cancels.

i put the phone down and rang sky, they are installing bb and phone in couple weeks.

they said adsl between 2.2-12.5. its not 100mb fiber but i need internet and am not waiting for them to pull their finger out. they have lost my business.

who wins a contract to put fibre into a new build complex then doesnt expand the box to take all the new connections...idiotic.

Has anyone had their connection throttled over the weekend?

I live in a very densely populated **** hole in London where every chav has Virgin and it appears they have throttled me to 600kb/s max download (0.6mb). My speed test still shows full speed but all downloads have been drastically throttled.

My brother lives in a nice area only 2 miles away and he is getting full 60mb speed.

Just been upgraded to Virgin 100MB but my netgear router will only do 70MB download speeds over wireless.

Been recommended that the Asus 56U will do well over 100MB on the wireless but wanted some opinions from you guys.
