Virgin Media Discussion Thread

@Ayahuasca are you still in your cooling off period? I'm honestly unsure what to do. I like having the extra speed but I don't want 18 months of dropped connections and latency spikes.

Nah, I'm out of mine now but it's only a 12-month contract, fortunately. I got it for a ridiculously low price anyway and have my G.fast connection for backup. As I said on here the other day, if they can't fix the reliability and latency before my contract is up, I won't be resubbing, even if Gig1 is available to me then.

What package are you on and how much are you paying?

M500 with basic TV, phoneline and SIM. Got £10 knocked off my bill a month and gave the SIM to my dad who's paying me £7pm for it. Works out about £25 a month and I'm still due £50 credit through a referral.

Has anyone take out Broadband only with Virgin?

I've tried before but always get told it's cheaper to have TV/Phone line in a bundle

Their website seems to have been updated and they now do M200 broadband only for £34 (£50 eventually), whereas I'm paying £54 (Should be £64) for M200, Basic TV and Talk weekends.

Yes I did, mainly because I'm still under contract for the TV side. £41 p/m for M350 w/ a 2GB SIM. (£50 bill credit)

Virgin just got installed in my area, and I got £46 a month for a small tv package, with internet (250mbps), 2gb SIM and phone. The max internet speed isn't reached that often though, I'm generally getting 110mbps which I'm guessing is due to lots of people working from home. Earlier mornings and later evenings get me closer to 250mbps. I also got £130 from top cashback for the package I'm on, so should bring it down to closer to £35 a month.

Primetime hours shouldn't be affecting your download speed. I consistently get the full 500+ Mbps throughout the day on a wired connection to my PC.

If it has just been installed in your area then I would be very surprised if congestion is an issue.

Just had the installer in, was here for around two hours so now have a working hub 3 and a 500 + mb connection, the wireless performance is pretty poor though, literally on top of the modem I get 250mb but then go into the next room and it’s like 5mb and low uploads like 3mb, hopefully switching over to a new netgear wireless router will help. anyone else using Apple wireless products and getting way lower, best I’ve had is maybe 110mb once in the next room lol.

They use there own meter to check the connection so wired does seem to be 500+

its certainly worth insisting on a manned install if you can since he did notice a splitter connection from the loft from when there used to be a cable tv system, then noticed a fault on the cable that runs to the house via the garden etc, apparently it’s only fibre to the cabinet, the street cable etc is copper.

Yep, I have 500Mbit broadband only @ £43pm

@Soulja I've noticed the same on my graph, really not impressed considering it's fibre right up to the box on the wall and I must be one of the only subscribers in my area so far.

For reference this is a typical day for my connection in Zone 2 East London with 2 people WFH and plenty of other activity on the network:

They're definitely lots of Virgin Media connections in this area but I pretty much always get full speed and do not have latency issues on online games.

So my wi fi speeds are about 80mb most of the time so I've spoken to virgin via their text service and they've said there is a problem at the cabinet near me... How can the cabinet fault affect my wi fi speed?! I'm getting full speed via either net.

This is their usual tactics to get people off the phone.

This is the standard response of someone who didn’t read the bit about web chat :D VM still outsource some of the contact handling to offshore and it’s not great.

The method of communication doesn't matter really, it's a standard response to get rid of you either way.

I've read his post again and it says text service actually, not web chat
