Virgin speed Issues

Change provider :p

Seriously though, not that I know of, although to be fair it's not something i've extensively looked into.

I doubt it.

Mine has been abysmal. For the first couple of days I had it I was getting around 6000kbps on Speedtest (which I was chuffed with). Now I am getting around 200kbps on Speedtest between 4 and 12, which translates to around 30kbps when Im actually downloading stuff, even off of decent, dedicated servers. I get around 800kbps off peak, which is better but still too slow to download big files (I want to download the Pirates of the Burning Sea client at 4gb, but apparently it will take around 30 hours). While 800kbps isnt the end of the world, it is still less than a 10th of what I pay for.

Im paying the get out clause and going to Pipex I think!

Havent seen a ping of less than 200 on Speedtest either.

VMCable has been poor for me for days.

They're shaping a lot of people from 4pm onwards, regardless of traffic. Are you experiencing these issues all day, or just in the evenings?

I could go all day without downloading anything, yet come 4pm my download speed is halfed from 240 kbs to 114kbs ( On 2mb here ) And i havnt even gone over the said "limit" ( I think its 400mb for the 2mb service )

Annoys me it does

It's dead on time for me, soon as I gobble up their precious 350mb of bandwidth after 4pm my connection is halved from 2mb to 1mb. Can't wait till I change ISP and I hope other people do the same. A mass exodus of customers is the only thing that will get these tossers to realise that their cheapskate tactics do them no good.

when you download too much it seems like your put in a sinbin for a few days
my connection is woeful from 4pm to 12am
20mb = joke never seen anymore than 10mb and thats from telewest ftp server
iam glad i got my bill reduced from £41 to £27 as i said i can get BE for 25

VM are very poor for me. I have the 20Mb and it very rarely achieves anything acceptable. I had an engineer out Saturday before last to test and change cable modem, and it is still bad.

During the week I am in my digs down south, and have a 2Mb VM (NTL) connection that performs better (with much lower pings too).

They really have made a total mess of what was once a good service from Telewest.

Come Monday, BT will be in to migrate my telephone line, and then I'll be onto Be. I've had enough of VM and the charge for support is the icing on top. I could not phone the number from my VM home phoneline (got unobtainable) so had to use my mobile!

Im on 20 Meg VM cable and during off-peak hours I get a constant 2.3MB / Sec. My pings are always low and steady, my only problem with Vm is the stupid traffic shaping scheme. When I pay for 20 meg, I expect to get 20 meg, no matter what bloody time it is!

could it just be that some areas have more network traffic and there for get speed limits, and other areas ( like out in the middle of know where ) get full speed cause there is no one else online ?

Hey, ive been doing the http://speedtester.bt.com/ every now and again and every time it seems to change, my last one was this.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4736 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 790 kbps

Anyone explain what this means? Thanks

It means your line is unstable, and is connecting at a lower speed - hence the reduced IP profile.
The bottom two are the rates your modem's connecting at and the result of an actual speedtest.

Thats strange because off peak I can download at 400KBps+ is this them capping me or my line? Or is there anything that can be done?

Today I noticed that on newsgroups im getting like 1.7mb/s downloads on a 4mb connection when i usually get like 470kb/s. has there been a speed increase or something? the files download fine and work fine.

How comes your internet is so bad? Mine has been flawless since i got it about a month ago. I just did a speed test for something else and this is what i got:

Lossing just 13kb. Unless this speed test is very unreliable?

Perhaps i just live in a lucky area lol.
