Virtual Desktop

wifi 5 AX router can also work well. its a personal preference and depends on specs. having a dedicated router is prefered depending on distance and network traffic.

Virtual desktop these days need a puchase on the headset your using if its a standalone headset.
if your a wred headset then my understanding is the PC verision of Virtual Desktop is legacy and for rift series? - never really looked in to that side of it.
in short buy the quest version
Hmm ok. Seems like I also need to download the streamer app on the PC. Might give it whirl later. ta.

e: Meta store offers a 30% discount but that does not seem to work on checkout.

A dedicated router either wifi5 or 6 is the best option.
I have a dedicated router straight to my pc and my racing rig upstairs, its only a few feet away. Get a constant no buffering connection.
I used to connect to my wifi5 main router which was downstairs but this gave me a few issues with buffering etc.

Bit of a thicko question but can I use this via VD, which I purchased donkies ago for the Vive? Or do I also need to also buy the Quest VD version? Confused how VD versions differ considering it all relates to PCVR gaming.

You need the Quest version.

EDIT: Answered already, sorry!!

Is anyone here playing Elite Dangerous on Virtual Desktop? I have tried suggestions on the frontier forum, used a switcher to ensure Openxr is running but no joy. Got it working with DCS and Il-2 Great battles

Haven't played it in VR for a while now, but learning always run through VD for all my pc VR games and it worked fine

I really like the way VD works. There was never an issue running Elite via the quest link and I dont remember having steamvr installed so I am puzzeled by it not launching into vr.

I've always found the default VR world scale in Elite to be way off and it makes everything look tiny, it's like flying a model ship with a 2 foot tall pilot when you notice it. That's why I use SteamVR as you can adjust it per app which makes it far better. The other issue is that while stuff is big the impression gets somewhat lost due to the manoeuvring speed of the ships, probably one of the reasons I quite like piloting my Type 9 lmao.

You can start ED Launcher with the /VR switch. It will log you in and start up the VR app (I still use Steam VR) and drop you at the main menu. If I'm not working on a build etc, then I'll fire up the VR just to be gobsmacked by the detail on stations and planet surface (SRV).
