Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a virtual local phone number, it will be used on my mobile phone only, no physical dedicated phone.

Can you recommend any companies? I've seen virtuallandline.co.uk offer one for £5.95 a month allowing me to select a phone number with my local area code. The only thing is it doesn't cover outbound calls for that. Seems a shame as my mobile plan comes with unlimited minutes. I do like the feature where they email you with the voicemail attached.

The main reason for wanting to do it this way is so I can put the virtual landline number on my social media profiles and website without putting my personal mobile number all over the internet.

Thanks

Could a 2nd sim card cover this? If you're phone supports two then you can easily seperate them.

I say this having no real experience of it.

I did think of this when I started out.

Other thing I could do is just return the calls from my mobile number but let them come in from the virtual landline.

As it's a local service business I know a lot of people will see the area code and think "oohh, this companies local". I do not show my address as I provide collect and return services and repairs on-site.

If I have a virtual landline number it should limit the amount of bots etc getting hold of my personal mobile.

Do you think its wise to hide your address when offering collect and return? Would put me off, in fact I actively avoid using companies/services that don't show, at least appear to show, full details as it smacks of hiding something. Apologies that its not a reply to your question!

Good to have others say as well so no problem.

Trouble is it's Computer support and it's all done from an office at home and I didn't really want people randomly turning up to the house.

I have had people offer to drop things off which I have accepted and therefore told them my address. I just didn't want to put my address all over social media.

The aim is to one day get a small office / dedicated work place away from home.

I have a Skype number with an subscription for UK calls. It gives me a London based 0203 number to receive and make calls, with all non-premium UK calls included in the flat fee. It also means I can make and receive calls across any of my devices (app on phone, app on tablet, my laptop or my desktop).

Only problem is I wanted a local area code but it is on the books to move to another local town in the next couple of years so I may hold off for now and keep with my mobile phone.
